Mini-Feature: KROQ “Roq Crusher” At The 2017 Off-Road Expo

[1]

Of the diesels that we saw at the recent 2017 Off-Road Expo [2] in Pomona, California, none stood out larger than the Roq Crusher. It belongs to Jay “Lightning” Tilles, a producer at the KROQ [3] radio station in Los Angeles.

With its imposing stance and radical modifications, we had to know more. We learned quite a bit upon closer inspection.

With its bevy of upgrades to the engine and transmission, we knew the Roq Crusher had some serious oomph. "It makes 635 horsepower and 1,135 lb-ft of torque," said Jay.

For starters, this is a 2008 Chevrolet 3500. It has a 12-inch lift from Bulletproof Suspension [6], providing plenty of clearance for the tires and wheels. Those are 24-inch American Force [7] Scopes and 37-inch Toyo [8] M/Ts, by the way.

Under the hood, the 6.6-liter LMM Duramax has a host of upgrades, all provided by Banks Power [9]. These include a Double-Shot water-methanol injection system, a Ram-Air intake, Big Hoss injectors, PowerMax Stage II turbocharger, SpeedBrake exhaust brake, and Monster exhaust. Banks also has a billet torque converter in the transmission, while Maximum Transmissions [10] did the billet input shaft.

The Roq Crusher sported a 12-inch lift, shocks, springs, and more from Bulletproof Suspension. The leaf springs were from Atlas Suspension [13]

The roof rack is an all-aluminum piece made by Wright Designs. It holds wiring inside for a train horn. The bumpers are from Innovative Designs, with some work done by Wright Designs. “He got rid of the welding seams,” said Jay.

All in all, this was one killer truck. We’re glad we got to see the Roq Crusher at the Off-Road Expo. Check out more from the event in our Top Tech [14] article.
