If there was one thing at this year’s Ultimate Callout Challenge [2] that we we loved, it was the trucks. Everywhere we looked, there was one badass build after another, and one of them was this mud truck owned by Pela Motorsports.
Adam is the guy helping us get the tunes squared away on our Cummins compound turbo build. He’s also a guy that loves himself a good mud bogger, and his truck is king when it comes to compound-turbocharged Duramax goodness.
[3]Adam estimates the LBZ Duramax makes between 900-1,000 horsepower, thanks to nitrous oxide injection, 100-percent-over injectors and 12mm stroker CP3 fuel pump, and last but not least, a Pusher Intakes [4] compound turbo system [5].
The truck has a storied history, as we learned from Adam. “The build was covered a few years ago in Mud Life before they disappeared,” he said. “The original rolling chassis was built by All-Out Performance [6], and I brought the truck home and finished it myself, since it wasn’t finished in time for the magazine’s Build-Off.”
The Mega Truck received a rear-mounted LBZ Duramax, and is currently running with a compound turbo system [5] made by Pusher Intakes [4]. Adam estimates he makes between 900-1,000 horsepower at the moment, counting the Nitrous Express [7] nitrous system. Also, Exergy Performance [8] has outfitted all fueling upgrades to the truck, including 100-percent-over injectors and a 12mm stroker CP3.

Adam took the truck to Lazy Springs, Florida not too long ago and had a blast with his friends.
The Duramax is mated to a Ford 4R100 transmission, and power is sent to the front wheels by way of an FTI [11] billet reverse-rotation transfer case. Both axles – Rockwell 2.5-ton top-loaders – have a 1.5:1 gear ratio.
Steering is provided by PSC Motorsports [12], and is hydraulic. Suspension is comprised of Patrick Enterprise [13] nitrogen shocks, each with 20 inches of travel. “They’re the same guys that build the shocks for Grave Digger,” Adam commented. The body is from FiberwerX [14], and sports a steel cab with a glass windshield and glass windows – a rarity, to be sure.

Tuning-wise, Adam went with EFI Live [16] and did it all himself. The standalone transmission control module is built by PCS [17]. Finally, the 24×12 wheels are custom-forged, and the tires are BKT [18] 14.9-24s.
It’s one thing when a truck looks great, but it’s another when it also gets used. Mega Truck has certainly made the rounds in the mud circuit down South, and will continue to do so here in 2017. “I’m looking forward to Mudfest [19],” said Adam.
If we ever find ourselves in South Florida, Adam says he’ll give us a ride in the Mega Truck. That’s one ride we can’t wait to try out, because this beast looks like a blast to take through the mud!
