SEMA 2014: BD Introduces More Ways To Flow Air

IMG_2224

If you look at an engine as a large air pump, then you can ignore the fuel aspect for a minute. More air in, means more air out. That is pretty simple and very logical. The issue is that most of us (we are guilty too) focus heavily on the air in side of things.

IMG_2218The consequences are usually high drive pressures, hotter EGT’s and part failures. BD Diesel Performance realized that some of the reason that people don’t focus on the more air out, is because there aren’t a lot of options and the ones that are out there can still fail. With that in mind, BD has released a few exhaust options to help flow more air.

One of the more exciting new products are their y-pipes for the Duramax. The up-pipe mounts to the exhaust manifold and then makes an immediate hard turn up. The 90 degree turn causes a lot of thermal fatigue and eventual failure with standard tubing. To fix this issue, BD has introduced new up-pipe cast elbows. These elbows are thicker than standard tubing and can take the additional stresses induced by the heat.

Another exhaust related product that is being showed here at the SEMA Show was introduced a few months ago. The 6.0 and 6.4 Power Stroke cast exhaust manifolds are able to flow more volume, resulting in less drive pressure. These two engines are known for very high drive pressure to boost pressure ratios because the exhaust side gets choked.

On the fresh air side, BD Diesel Performance is proud to introduce a new line of 66 and 67 mm billet compressor wheels. The Super 600 is a 66/80/0.80 A/R wastegated turbine housing where the 67/80/0.80 A/R is called a Super 650.

We are continually developing products for the towing and race industry — Brian Roth, CEO BD Diesel Performance

In addition to the two new singles, BD is releasing a new compound kit for the 6.7 Cummins. The kit features their new exhaust manifold with a T-3 foot. Connected to the T-3 is a 64mm high pressure turbocharger that is feed by an 80mm low pressure.

Over the past couple of years, BD Diesel Performance has been pushing the foundries. “We are continually developing products for the towing and race industry,” said Brian Roth CEO of BD Diesel Performance. “By working with our race team, we are constantly seeing new opportunities and are able to develop a lot of new products. These new products not only work in racing, but they are very good for towing applications as well,” finished Roth.
