You’ll never hear the competition admit to it, but when a diesel truck is needed to take care of moving stuff from place to place, the Cummins-powered Rams are the truck of choice. However, the stock suspension system can leave a lot to be desired by those who make use of their truck’s cargo capabilities on a daily basis.
Firestone Industrial has been a popular go-to source for suspension solutions for close to 80 years now, and never seeks to meet its customer base at the low or middle ground. Here at SEMA, the company brought out its big guns to show off, and we talked to regional sales manager Todd Green to find out what these new products were.
“The 2014 Ram 2500 suspension was a big change from years past,” said Green. “We developed a front and rear air spring kit for the platform, direct-fit without the need for cutting or welding, with all the hardware and brackets included.”
Over on the other side of the booth, we got a look at Firestone’s suspension accessories that would enhance the experience of using the Ram air spring kit. “A lot of folks install our kits and then find that they’d like some sort of on-board air management system, and this is what we offer.” Green gestured at the board of controllers and gauges available for truck applications.
The board displayed dashboard mounted analog and digital gauges, as well as wireless controllers used to control the air spring system. A keyfob-sized device was extremely lightweight and compact, making it easily portable and convenient, while a larger tuner-sized one could be placed inside the cab or on a worksite to offer up to three preset spring rates, with detailed readouts onscreen as well.
Lastly, we viewed the Air-Rite heavy duty compressor, which promised rugged performance day-in and day-out. “They’re IP67 rated, so they’ll work underwater and in heavy dust,” said Green. “All someone has to do is route the intake into the engine bay or cab, anywhere dry air can be found, and they’ll be good to go.”
We were quite impressed with these products from Firestone Industrial, and imagine they’ll be making many a Ram owner happy in the near future. For more information, seek out answers online or by phone with the provided contact information below.
