If you own a RAM that is fairly new, then you are probably already aware that RAM understands that a large percentage of their owners tow gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers. So, what they did when they designed their late model trucks was to integrate quite a few features to make installation of gooseneck and 5th wheel hitches easier!
Well, CURT Manufacturing just released a new mounting kit that allows owners of existing CURT 5th wheel heads to take advantage. The new kit is basically a set of legs that connect to any of their existing hitch heads. Once the legs have been connected to the hitch head, the entire assembly can then be set into the truck and the lock downs; locked down.
Since this kit works with any of their existing heads, you have the ability to tow up to 24,000 lbs. All parts are powder coated, so they will last for a long time.
According to CURT: The most unique feature of CURT’s 5th wheel legs is the variable position anchors that allow the 5th wheel hitches to easily drop into the under-bed locations. A quarter-turn anchoring system allows quick and easy 5th wheel installation and removal. The anchors can be adjusted to limit movement and eliminate unwanted chucking noises. CURT estimates installation to take just 20 to 40 minutes depending on an installer’s level of expertise.
While this kit says that it will take 20 to 40 minutes to install, if you watch the video above or look at the required tools below, this seems to be a very simple kit to install. It appears that the installation time is probably pretty accurate. This isn’t one of those kits that says 20 minutes and 3 hrs later you are half way done.
