It was a cool damp day in Holland, Texas for The Little River Diesel Throwdown III. This event had over 40 trucks racing and a constant line of trucks spinning the rollers on the 361 Motorsports Dyno. The weather wasn’t ideal but it didn’t stop over 800 spectators from watching the day’s events. When they weren’t watching the smoke fly, they were checking out vendor row where companies such as Power Source Diesel, Premco Diesel Performance, Diesels of Texas, Majestic Turbo Waco, Valair Clutches, Hamilton Cams, Top Frog Diesel–N-Gas, Altered Diesel Wurks, Long Horn Fab Shop, Core Diesel, and LJC Performance were showing off their latest goodies.
The track was open by 10 am and eliminations started at noon. One crowd favorite was Daniel Pierce in his Cummins powered Mustang. The event was mostly a Texas event and rivals Robert Ivey, Phillip Franklin, and Daniel Pierce were going back and forth for top spot during the day. They were all running mid six to low seven seconds in the eighth-mile Heads up Pro Tree class. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate and the finals were cut short. Luckily for two of them, the purse was split three ways.
The Sportsmen Diesel Class showcased some really impressive racing all day with over 25 trucks competing. Sadly, right before the finals rain prevented Scott Mckinstry and Eugene Hostetler from putting an end to the smack talking. So, they both ended up getting paid and the question will go unanswered (who could hit their times better).
In true Texas fashion, the dyno was getting worked all day. The guys from 361 Motorsports had the dyno running shortly after the gates opened and well before anyone was making passes. The high horsepower of the day was a Dodge that laid down 755 hp and 1,400 ft. lbs. of torque.
Keep your eyes peeled for news about the next Little River Diesel Throwdown. It is tentatively scheduled for next spring; the event organizers have guaranteed higher payouts in hope to draw in an even bigger field of competitors. If the rain holds out, it should be a great central Texas diesel event.
