The SEMA Show is right around the corner in the first week of November. With that time coming quickly, many manufacturers are already talking about the latest and the greatest that they will be unveiling at the show. We recently came across something kind of cool for all you techies from DashCommand. If that is you, then check this out!
According to the company, “Performance enthusiasts and racers looking for more in-depth communication with their vehicles can turn their iPhone or Android smartphone, their iPad, or their iPod touch into an advanced in-car computer. Palmer Performance Engineering’s DashCommand app provides your vehicle with a virtual dashboard that puts all the vital performance numbers and engine parameters in one place.”
So, how does it work. It uses its virtual gauges to display detailed data on horsepower and torque, boost/vacuum pressure, air/fuel ratio, engine coolant temperature, instant and average fuel economy, and much more. It also integrates the smartphone’s GPS and accelerometer to include specialized features such as racetrack mapping and acceleration data, an inclinometer (for off-roading), and a skid pad feature for measuring g-forces.
No matter what you are using this app for; you have up to 229 OBD-II parameters at a click or a swipe. Your data is pulled directly from the vehicle’s OBD-II port through a low-cost OBD-II connection device (available separately). Data logs can then be emailed to a PC for further analysis (or to your buddies to show off). Its vehicle manager feature has the ability to support data from multiple vehicles. The DashCommand can, also, be used as a scan tool to read and clear OBD-II trouble codes that trigger the “check engine” light.
The DashCommand is available through the iTunes App Store for all of your favorite Apple products. The Android app for DashCommand is available through Android Market.
