In Memoriam – Bob Lichtmann Founder of Covercraft

Just two days prior to his birthday Bob Lichtmann, founder of Covercraft Industries, LLC [3] passed away. According to SEMA [4], Lichtmann passed away on February 20, just shy of his 92nd birthday.  He is survived by his sons, Marty, Larry, and Jay, along with their families. Litchmann was preceded in death, by his best friend and wife of 62-years, Charlotte.

Services and a celebration of life for Bob Litchmann were held on February 24, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. Lichtmann opened up his business in 1965 in a small shop in Southern California and began to manufacture exceptional interior and exterior protection for automotive aficionados.

[5]For those who do not immediately recognize the Covercraft name, Lichtmann’s company added several automotive specialty product lines over the years. According to SEMA, Covercraft’s specialty lines include: SeatSaver, LeBra, Colgan Custom masks, Canine Covers, DashMat, floor mats, and UVS100 sunscreens, powersports covers, and ADCO recreational vehicle products.

Covercraft started out in 1965 in a small shop that created custom car covers for a variety vehicles. In the beginning Litchmann and one employee started with just 30 custom patterns, now that number has grown to over 85,000 patterns. From its humble beginnings in a 1,500 sqare feet shop to its modern home with three manufacturing facilities totally over 300,000 square feet. Lichtmann’s dream has grown into a multi-state business with over 700 employees. Many of the Covercraft employees have been with the company for over twenty-years, which attests to commitment to family that Lichtmann created over the years.
