Purpose-built off-road vehicles seem to be making a strong comeback these days. We know the Ford SVT Raptor is due back in 2017, a new Wrangler is coming down the pike in 2018, and Volkswagen is looking to edge in on the market with the new Tiguan GTE Active Concept. But what about Nissan?
Though the Frontier is still a question mark with regards to its next generation, its big brother, the Titan, is making big moves to impress truck enthusiasts. That much was evident as Nissan pulled back the veil on the Warrior concept, lending a very off-road, aggressive feel to the half-ton.
“Truck buyers have a seemingly insatiable appetite for more content and more unique offerings,” said José Muñoz, executive vice president, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and chairman, Nissan North America, Inc. “Even though our all-new 2016 TITAN XD just started arriving at Nissan dealers nationwide last month, we are already exploring new territory where TITAN might go in the future.”
The concept truck touts three inches of lift, 37-inch all-terrain tires, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The sides were bulged out three inches to create an overall width of 86.6 inches. Meanwhile, the hood has functional scoops to keep the 5.0-liter Cummins well-fed with a supply of cool air. Out back, the exhaust is split into four tailpipes to add to the “cool” factor and to create a healthy exhaust note. Nissan hasn’t released any details on the suspension, however, other than that it’s a long-travel setup that’s ideal for off-roading.
Is this the kind of truck that could unseat the Ford Raptor as a battle-ready off-roading machine? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
