In the pursuit of more power, any little addition can help. For Power Stroke owners this can come with something like a new damper. We had the chance to talk to Rob Sappe at ATI Performance [2] to find out more about their new 7.3-liter Power Stroke damper.

ATI Performance’s Ford damper (PN 918047 [4]) ready to handle anything you throw at it.

“This new design eliminated the need to source a longer belt that was needed on our previous version, and now spins the accessory drive the exact same speed as the OEM damper,” Rob Sappe said. “This is much easier on power steering and water pumps.”

In addition to the new design, they damper also uses a five-ring orientation compared to the typical three-ring. “The ‘ring’ refers to the number of O-rings on the outer and inner diameter surrounding the internal inertia weight,” Sappe explained.

This picture shows the inertia circled in blue, surrounded by three O-rings, inner and outer. The new Power Stroke OEM diameter will have five-rings where we typically run two or three.

“We also have our 10-inch, four-ring damper,” Sappe said. “This is the largest damper we have ever made and is typically used on big cubic-inch, big boost, big horsepower, torque pulling trucks, and tractors.”
