Spotlight: Quick Hit Questions With Throttle Down Kustoms

169.0

From the Big Sky Country and out to almost all pickup owners in America, the folks at Throttle Down Kustoms are making some excellent products for use in the trucks of today. For over 10 years, owner, founder, and fabricator Jeremy Pulse has been busy researching and developing ways to make 4x4s more rugged and durable, and part and parcel of that evolution has come from the production of top-tier bumpers.

We talked with Pulse and asked him a handful of quick-hit questions to gain a better understanding of the shop, its capabilities, and what makes its bumpers stand apart. In doing so, we learned quite a bit – including all the types of fauna that went up against the bumpers and lost.

A) How long has Throttle Down Kustoms been making these types of bumpers for truck applications? When did their availability begin?

I’ve been making bumpers professionally for 14 years now. It began as a side job at nights after work. I was making them for myself, and pretty soon people saw my work and wanted ones for their own trucks.

B) What kind(s) of material are used in the construction? What is the machining process?

The bumpers are made out of 3/16-inch plate with 1/4-inch mounting plates that are all CNC laser-cut and formed in press brakes. They’re then welded by certified welders using the latest technology on the market.

C) How was testing performed on the bumpers (i.e. vehicle accidents, deer impacts, heavy towing)?

Well, it’s kind of funny but true – the bumpers are there to protect the vehicle in case of impacts, and we’ve heard of occasions where our bumpers met with a deer, elk, or other large animal and come out the other side just fine. Suffice it to say, the bumpers have been in multiple accidents and held up to all of them better than anticipated.

D) How can a customer customize his bumper to suit his application (i.e. tiers of bumpers; with or without LED lamp holes; grill guards; powder coating; etc.)

We offer our bumpers with a variety of options to suit all types of customers. They can be ordered with or without powder coating, and have locations for lights with or without grill guards. Every one of our bumpers is customizable.

E) Could you briefly touch on the different types of models available and what they bring to the table (i.e. bumper, bumper push bar, bumper prerunner, bumper grill guard, Mayhem, and rear bumper)?

The regular Bumper, Bumper Push Bar, and Bumper Prerunner give a truck lower protection with a little protection higher up. They add a great style and look. The Bumper Grill Guard is designed to protect the whole front end of the truck. Finally, the Mayhem model was designed to protect the same as the Grill Guard while giving the truck a sportier look and full protection.

F) Can TDK make bumpers for other trucks (i.e. Tacomas, Titans, Frontiers, Rangers, etc.)? How can they begin the process toward having a custom, one-off bumper made?

We do offer bumpers for the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma. We can also create a custom one-off bumper, but the customer needs to arrange with us to drop his truck off first. We’re more than happy to make something totally unique and still functional for everyday use.

Strong, reliable, and built the way it was meant to be – that’s the Throttle Down Kustoms way. Find out more by phone or online with the provided contact information below.
