We recently took in another few shipments, and among them were the LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate and SmartAir II products from Air Lift. Here they are in another edition Spotted In The Shop, and we’re excited to see what they’ll be able to do for a 2011 Ford F-250 FX4 and its owner.
We know from talking with the owner that he plans on doing a lot more towing in the future. As an enthusiast of drag racing and boating, he has ample need for a vehicle that can handle heavier loads and take them to various spots around the Southwest. Air Lift’s kit seems to be one of the best solutions to this issue. Let’s check out why.
The LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate is the next step up from Air Lift’s massively popular LoadLifter 5000 air bag springs. The key to the upgrade is an internal jounce bumper made from closed-cell urethane foam, which will neutralize harsh bumps and jolts on rough roads.
It replaces the stock jounce bumper found on trucks, and provides comfort in three stages, whether it be unloaded, under heavy load, or at full compression. What’s more, it can run at zero air pressure safely without need for worry or concern.
Naturally, the LoadLifter 5000 Ultimates cannot operate without a partner: an air compressor. This is where the SmartAir II system steps in.
The SmartAir II derives its name from its ability to adapt quickly to changing terrain and keep everything stable and smooth. Built into the SmartAir II is the ability to detect when the tow vehicle is not level, and then automatically inflate or deflate the air bag springs to restore normal ride height.
It does this using non-contact magnetic technology to keep the vehicle’s ride height normal. The magnet is mounted above the leaf spring pack and at rest, is in close proximity to an electronic height sensor mounted to the frame. Whenever the sensor detects the magnet go beyond its bounds, it will trigger the SmartAir II to make the air springs stiffer or softer, whichever will restore ride comfort and stability.
What’s more, we have the dual-path model of SmartAir II. This will allow the air springs to be independently inflated and deflated for an even faster and more comfortable towing experience.
No matter how we look at it, the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate and SmartAir II seem to be one of the most high-tech and interesting kits we’ve ever worked with. Look for the tech article to come out soon, and in the meantime, check out Air Lift on its website and Facebook page.
