Spotted In The Shop: Mickey Thompson Tires And M/T Metal Wheels

[1]

All motorsports have the tips and tricks to help excel in the sport. The sport we’re looking into is diesel drag racing and one of the biggest keys is traction. Getting these big trucks to stay planted to the track can be a challenge.

Mickey Thompson [2] is making sure we stick with 305/45R18 ET Street R tires and a set of 18-inch M/T Metal Series wheels. We plan on installing these on our Project DeadSpool [3], a 2004 Dodge Ram drag truck. The truck is strictly for competition use only and is located in the midwest. The Midwest, as you may know, is flooded with drag strips so we’ll have plenty of options to test these out.

The wheels look aggressive and they are going to set off the look of the truck. We are looking forward to testing these tires out on the drag stip.

Gripping and ripping the racing surface is exactly what these ET Street R tires were designed to do. Standing 28.8 inches tall and 12 inches wide, these tires will create enough of a footprint on the surface to maintain traction all the way down the track.

The tires are DOT approved meaning they are legal for street driving, but in this case, we aren’t using it for that. This street legal drag tire has proven race compounds and incredible traction. A wide variety of sizes are available.

The MM-164B wheels feature a machine-cut face, along with a gloss black clearcoat finish.

TheM/T Metal Series wheels are one of the many options Mickey Thompson offers. We went with the MM-164B because they are flashy, yet aggressive. These M/T Metal Series wheels offer the perfect combination of style and function for our project truck. They feature an eight-spoke design with milled accents, multi-layer clear coat, corrosive-resistant pop-top center cap, and a limited lifetime guarantee against structural defects.

Be sure and check out Mickey Thompson’s website [10] to find a set for your truck, and also follow them on Facebook [11] for the latest updates.
