Video: Auto Meter’s MFDL Data System Recalibrates Racer’s Butts

Just a couple of decades ago, racers only needed a calibrated butt to get all the information they needed from their car to be successful. As the cars became more complicated and the racing became more competitive, seat-of-the-pants feel simply was not going to collect every piece of data from every run for review at the team’s request. Auto Meter’s Multi-Function Dash Logger (MFDL) Data System simplifies the chore and prevents racer’s from having to get their butts recalibrated.

Marc Erickson’s Super Gas Truck provided the perfect platform to show off AutoMeter’s MFDL data system. Notice the display on the trailer just above the truck’s bed.

Auto Meter’s Marc Erickson campaigns a Chevy S10 in the Super Gas Truck class in the IHRA series, which was a perfect platform to show off the Multi-Function Dash Logger with digital video recorder. It is clear to see how much data is collected and stored after viewing the video recorded at the track during a single run. This data can be studied and used to improve your track driving and even advance the learning curve on new tracks much faster.

The choice in data that can be monitored and logged ranges from simple RPM and O2 readings on the left and right cylinder banks to driveshaft RPM or several other inputs. The MFDL data systems from Auto Meter have a total of 13 recording channels and 9 different sensor inputs. The unit has the ability to store multiple run recordings and even time and date stamp the runs as they are recorded so there is no doubt what happened on each pass.

Erickson’s S10 benefitted greatly from the data collected by the data logging system.

Auto Meter’s MFDL data system may not replace the tried and true seat-of-the-pants data collection but the unit certainly adds to the collection of data. For more information about Auto Meter and their Muti-Function Dash Logger data systems, visit them at www.autometer.com
