Video: Chevy Camaro Mated With A Duramax Diesel

Some people just want to watch the world burn, but others would rather see it compressed into ignition. Such is the case of Nathan Mueller, a man who has made a habit out of installing massive diesel engines into cars they have no business motivating. According to Engine Swap Depot [1], Mueller has dropped diesels into both a 1960 Cadillac de Ville and a 2006 Dodge Charger, but his latest creation is one for the Chevy fans.

[2]Mueller recently completed swapping a Duramax diesel engine into a 2010 Chevy Camaro, a match that could only be made in the bowels of Hell. But before you go crying heresy, it’s important to know the whole story here.

When Mueller picked up the Camaro, it has been stripped of its entire drivetrain and other important components, leaving it little more than an empty husk. Bringing the chassis back to his shop, One to Won Customs, where work began in earnest. Fitting a 6.6 liter 850-lb Duramax motor under the hood of a muscle car was no small feat, and Mueller had to ditch his original plan to use a five-speed Allison transmission, as the gearbox simply wouldn’t fit.

The solution was to swap out the LLY Duramax engine for a LLM model that could be paired with a 6L90E automatic transmission from a Chevy Express van. Still, getting the hood to close required three-inch spacers between the subframe and unibody and custom strut bracers to level everything out, but the result is an otherwise stock look. Rated at 516 horsepower and a stump-pulling 869 lb-ft of torque, Mueller plans on adding an aftermarket turbo kit and other modifications that will take the DuraMaro (as we’re calling it) to new performance heights.
