What possesses a man to turn a typical pickup truck into a 1,500 horsepower, 9-second dragster that belches out black and fills the air with the high-pitched whine of a massive turbo? That’s what we are asking ourselves after watching this four-wheel drive harbinger of the apocalypse notch a single-digit run a battle between two badass black pickups.
Boasting a compound turbo setup and a complete rebuild of the motor and transmission, this no-expense-spared diesel machine can shove over 90 PSI through the turbines to produce a mind-bogglingly 1,500 horsepower and 2,300 lb-ft of torque.
Unfortunately for us, the owner doesn’t go into all that much detail about the build, so all we can really infer from this video is that a lot of time and money went into this build. Making a 6,500+ pound four-door pickup truck with the aerodynamic profile of a chipped brick is no easy task, and there’s something both inspiring and unsettling about seeing something so big move so fast.
Filmed at the Street Car Takeover event in Phoenix earlier this year, we can also infer that this is a street legal vehicle that could pull up next to you at just about any stoplight. It definitely looks more at home on the drag strip though, laying down a beating on a nitrous-amplified Chevy Silverado and some kind of beefed-up Cadillac Escalade EXT.
This kind of insanity is hard to keep up with, on or off the drag strip. It just goes to show that where there are deep pockets and a devotion to diesel engines, big power and high speeds are never far behind.
