Video: Insane 1,200 HP Cummins Swapped Chevy C10

A few months back, we featured an article about the Hypermax diesel-powered dragster and its six-second pass at the NHRDA World Finals.  That video demonstrated just how powerful and how quick a diesel-powered race car can be. So what would happen if you put a built Cummins engine capable of a cool 1,200 horsepower in a Chevy C10, added a giant turbo, and a dash of nitrous for good measure? The only word to describe the outcome is insanity! This video from Beans Diesel Performance shows what happens when this combo overpowers the chassis and track in a single pass.

Beans Diesel Performance has been around for nearly a decade and does all types of work on all things diesel. The shop works on light diesel trucks, performs dyno tuning, cranks out full builds, and will swap a Cummins engine into whatever your heart desires. The truck in this video was built and tuned in-house and put down 1,272 horsepower with 1,800 lbs of torque to the wheels.

The truck is a 1981 Chevy C10 that Beans swapped in a 5.9L Common Rail Cummins engine. To put down the power, the motor was stuffed with Carrillo Billet Rods and Mahle Monotherm Steel Pistons. Beans made their own custom intake to help this beast breathe and used Exergy Performance 150% over injectors to keep the diesel flowing. A Single Borg Warner s467.7 billet wheel turbo is used in addition to a Nitrous Express Progressive two-stage Nitrous kit. All of this power is put through a Ford 4r100 transmission with a Precision Industries triple disc billet torque converter. Rounding out the back of the truck is a trick custom ladder bar three-link set up and a Ford 9-inch with Moser 40 spline axles.

All of this power has pushed this 4,350 pound truck into the 6.20’s in the 1/8 mile and what can only be described as a fussy 10.11 in the quarter mile. The video shows just how truly nasty this truck is as it packs the front end and then gets all sorts of sideways.
