WTF: Six-Door Chevy With A Fiery Tale

If you’ve followed us for a while now, you’ve seen quite a few Wrecked Truck Fridays (WTF). We’ve explored the IAA website in search of passed-on pickups and found several worthwhile entries. This time, however, we decided to dive a little deeper in search of the story.

When we first found this burned-up, six-door 2500, its bevy of glamorous upgrades – bumpers, lift, wheels, tires, paint – told us we were on to something special. A Google search confirmed that the truck had already had its 15 minutes of fame. It was once a feature vehicle in a major truck magazine.

It's sad to think that this truck used to be clean and beautiful.

Curious as to how the Chevy went from famous to flambéed, we did some sleuthing and found the owner, “Bubba” Watts. Despite our attempts to reach him, he was not available for comment at the time of this writing.

From the feature, however, we were able to get some details on the Chevy. Bubba and his father purchased the truck and did a bunch of modifications. An 8-inch Fabtech lift was installed, as was a front axle and suspension from a 2007 Ford F-350. The cab became a merger between the 2500 and a 2002 Silverado, with doors from a 2005 Silverado, while the frame was lengthened.

The truck was painted by Dynamic Coatings in Leesburg, Florida. The engine, from a 2005 Duramax, was given Banks Power upgrades (intercooler, turbo, etc.). Three rows of seats from three 2010 Silveradoes were installed. JL Audio got the music pumping with subwoofers and speakers. Topping it all off were the 22-inch Fuel wheels and 37-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers.

Yet for all of the equipment the truck had, it did little to stop the fire that consumed the engine bay and interior. The magnificent paint job is all but gone, but the bolt-on upgrades are still salvageable.

Should the Chevy be brought back from the brink? Or is it all burned out? Let us know in the comments below.
