Outlaw Diesel Super Series: The Scheid Experience

This year’s Scheid Diesel event brought drag racers who follow the Outlaw Diesel Super Series, along with the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League, to compete in a pair of events held at Wabash Family Fairgrounds.

On our way to the fairgrounds on Thursday morning, we were excited after we saw the weather forecast and it was going to be much nicer than years past. Fast forward to Saturday, for day one of the drag racing portions of the event.

Landon Miller introduced Firepunk Diesel's 2016 Ram to the art of drag racing.

In the Sportsman ET class, driver Joey Moore in his 2006 Dodge Ram ran dead on in the 10.00-second range to take home the win in both days of competition. It seems like Joey is the kind of driver that has a racing program that knows whats going on.

Looks like an ET/Sportsman driver was trying to close the gap.

Saturday, short after E.T, the 7.70-index class ran throughout the day and eventually found itself a winner. That winner on day one was Kevin Frey in his 2006 Dodge Ram. That’s another Ram, are you beginning to see a trend?

Saturday's third place driver Adrian Forkum and Sunday's winner Larson Miller both ran great on their days of racing.

Sunday’s 7.70-index class dealt with probably the hottest and worst track conditions. We ended up with a fourth place finish in our 2004 Dodge Ram, but it was Larson Miller who took home the points, the money, and the pride. His 2007 Dodge Ram was on point all day and it showed.

Getting faster, we moved into the 6.70-index class later in both days, but on day one, in the retired KingSpeed Repair drag truck, Seth Higgins took out Braxton Grose and also dialed his truck in for a number one qualifier.

Come Sunday, it came down to Exergy Performance‘s own, Ric Newbury in the 6.70 final against the now “super-light,” Rick Fox. It was the reaction time on the front of track that was the deciding factor, but it was Newbury taking home the win.

Saturday was used just for qualifying in the Pro classes while Sunday was race day. After qualifying it was Lavon Miller in Pro Street, Ryan Milliken in Pro Mod, and Jared Jones in Pro Dragster each sitting in the number one qualifying spot in their respective classes.

Sunday was elimination day and everyone was gunning for the tree, but there was only room for three winners in the Pro classes. Jared Jones, the driver of the Scheid dragster, beat the orange crush dragster of RLC Motorsports, but did so in a scary fashion.

After the throttle hung in Jone’s dragster it took his experience as a driver to get the car shut down and remain unharmed. We’re glad Jared is okay and glad nothing was broken.

Moving into the Pro Mod class it was a battle of the Nova’s with a Fleece Performance and Hardway Performance showdown of the old school street muscle equipped with the new style diesel power. Ryan Milliken was the victor on Sunday even after some traction issues, but it was still enough to stay ahead of the baby blue ’62 Nova.

In the Pro Street category, the much-anticipated race between Dustin Jackson and Lavon Miller was as close as we expected. With only one race remaining to decide the points championship every single round helps.

It was Dustin Jackson with the better reaction being able to pull away from the Firepunk Ram to take the win and the points lead. Lavon Miller only has one last chance to come from behind and steal the crown in Rudy’s Fall Truck Jam.

It was an insanely fun weekend and if you were not at the event, then you definitely missed out. For more information on how to catch the next Outlaw Diesel Super Series drag racing event be sure to check the ODSS website.
