Ultimate Callout Challenge: Day 2 Recap

With Day 1 of the 2018 Ultimate Callout Challenge in the books, that can only mean one thing. It’s time for the battle to continue on to Day 2. For the UCC competitors, it was their turn on the dyno, also known as the lie detector. For the UCC Qualifiers, it was time to put all that power they showcased yesterday, and apply it to the quarter-mile dragstrip.

Unlike last year, the weather this year was absolutely beautiful with a brisk breeze in the morning and topping out to 68 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the day. This made for a perfect day for competition.

Last year, everyone anticipated the battle between Lavon Miller and Shawn Baca. But there were new and returning teams that showed potential of upsetting the known heavy hitters. Drivers like Donovan Harris, Jared Delekta, Josh Gruis, and Derek Rose did serious testing over the winter.

For the UCC Qualifiers, they are just getting a taste for this event as they wrapped up their first day of competition. Any overnight alterations for today’s event were done and they headed to the lanes. Unfortunately for them, we witnessed a ton of casualties in Day 2 as the dragstrip was just too much for some of the builds.

Top 5: Dyno Competition UCC Competitors

  1. Derek Rose, DNR Customs/ BD Diesel Performance– 2,378 HP/3,479 lb-ft of torque
  2. Shawn Baca, Industrial Injection- 2,391 HP/ 2,734 lb-ft of torque
  3. Lavon Miller, Firepunk Diesel- 2,243 HP/ 3,014 lb-ft of torque
  4. Chris Buhidar, Truck Source Diesel- 2,238 HP/ 2,802 lb-ft of torque
  5. Jared Delekta, Industrial Injection- 2,188 HP/ 2,663 lb-ft of torque

We perfectly placed ourselves near the dyno for one of the coolest shots of the weekend. Those TBM Brakes are going to need to cool off before anymore action this weekend. As previously mentioned, it wasn't enough to win, but the Firepunk sled put on one hell of a show.

Although he did his best (not to mention he ran out past his twenty-minute window), Firepunk Diesel’s Lavon Miller came up short on taking home the dyno bragging rights. Miller did what he could to load the engine up to make as much power as possible. At the end of the day, it was DNR Customs Derek Rose taking home the win with a blistering 2,378 horsepower and 3,479 lb-ft of torque.

 

The entire DNR Customs and BD Diesel team were ecstatic at Rose’s performance. It really made all the hard work and dedication over the last months worth it.

Although he was edged out by Ryan Phaff, Trevor Peterson’s trip to Indianapolis isn’t going unnoticed. His performance thus far has him nested comfortably in the number two spot overall.

While we had some off time during a few runs, we strolled through the vendor row. There were 132 different vendors set up on the backside of the grandstands showcasing all of their new parts and apparel for the 2018 season. On the outside of the vendor area, there was a monster crowd surrounding the show and shine. Trucks from all over the country came to participate in on the of the most prestigious truck show of the year. Stay tuned for our top five trucks from the show.
