When it comes to building a hot rod, heat truly is your enemy. That’s why many enthusiasts spend a large amount of money on great radiators, but often times, don’t put as much thought into the fans that pull – or push – the air through that cooling apparatus. SPAL Automotive USA wants to let you know why the cooling fan(s) should not be a secondary thought.
“What we have here, are our new brushless cooling fans. They’re a variable speed fan that delivers some nice features like a soft start and internal motor protection. That motor protection means if the voltage drops below 9 volts, or gets above 16 volts, it shuts off. That means, no more burned up cooling fans because of voltage issues. It also allows us to deliver more powerful fans,” said Brent Chuck of SPAL. The soft start that Brent mentioned is great for guys with stock, low-amperes alternators, as it doesn’t place such an immediate, hard draw when it starts.
The brushless technology is better than traditional cooling fan technology, as it delivers, higher temperature ratings, vibration resistance, and no longer need relays and complex electrical connections. All that is required is the sensor to tell the motor what to do.
This new technology is great for guys that want to drive the fan from an aftermarket ECU. “All the user has to do is connect the PWM wire from the ECU to the fan, and it drives the fan directly,” Brent stated. “The system we offer is designed to be plug-and-play for everyone, but the hardcore guys can take advantage of full control of the fan(s).”
So, if you’re looking for the ultimate in cooling fan technology, check out the new brushless-series fans from SPAL USA.
