All Diesel Day Valley Blackout: Recap From Louisville, Kentucky

With summer in full swing, it’s inevitable that these great standalone events will pop up around the country. Right in the middle of diesel country, at Ohio Valley Dragway, the patented All Diesel Day Valley Blackout was held over the weekend and it was an event that you shouldn’t have missed. Promoters Banean Woosley and Marty Schindler Jr. provided a dyno, show and shine contest and the 1/8th-mile dragstrip for the diesel power fans for a fun-filled day.

Confirmation from multiple sources tells us the unbearable heat was making racing conditions very hard to obtain a consistent truck. Consistency was key with the offered class because most of them were index classes or a class that required you to run the predicted number.

The Thoroughbred Diesel E.T Bracket Class, PureFlow Air Dog 7.70 index, Virgillio’s Diesel Performance 6.50 index, and Firepunk Diesel Pro Street Class filled the staging lanes on Saturday afternoon. With that, the event brought a lot of regulars that follow either the Outlaw Diesel Super Series or the NHRDA and there were also some returning drivers that have making extra long winter alterations.

Austin Doidge and Rick Fox are two drivers who made their 2018 debut after making some serious adjustments to their second generation Rams. Both followed the Outlaw Diesel Super Series in 2017 and competed in the 6.70 Index class, but it wasn’t enough for them. After a long winter, they are feeling good about moving up into the 5.90 index class.

In the E.T Bracket class, it was Michael Hayes taking the win in his third-generation Ram. Following the E.T class, Hayes returned to the starting line for the 7.70 index finals where he faced off against Firepunk Diesel’s Larson Miller. Miller went on to win overall in the class.

In both the Virgillio’s Diesel 6.50 index and the Firepunk Diesel Pro Street, Austin Doidge took the home the wins. Doidge has been frantically working on his Ram to get into 5.90 index trim cutting weight and also giving it a facelift. The all-new Firepunk Anteater wrap definitely sets this truck apart from the rest.

“I finally got to put all of my hard work to the test this weekend and debut the anteater truck,” said Doidge. “I had problems with my big nitrous kit but managed to take the win in both classes I entered.” Things are looking up for Doidge and Co.

The dyno had plenty of participants, but it was Tristan Dunlap taking the overall win in highest horsepower. With 1,711 horsepower nobody was catching him. “We broke some parts and hurt some feelings,” Dunlap said. “But hey, 1711 horsepower, it’s hard to be mad about it.”

The show and shine was full of trucks as well, but there were only room for four. Best Dodge, Ford, GM, and Best Of Show. Shown above are the events winners in each class.

From what we’ve been told, this event was nothing short of great with the exception of the heat. We’re looking forward to the 2019 All Diesel Day and we’re definitely going to make the trip. For more information on upcoming All Diesel Day events, stay tuned to DieselArmy.com.
