Pro Street Record: 4,500-LBS, 4WD, 4.97 At 151 MPH – Firepunk Diesel

As you already know, Firepunk Diesel has been pushing the envelope in not only the diesel industry itself but in the drag racing scene too. As if their entire squad of Ohio based trucks showing up to all of the Outlaw Diesel Super Series and putting on a clinic wasn’t enough, their regular cab, four-wheel drive 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Pro Street truck continues to punch its way into the diesel performance history books. On Friday, at the Rudy’s Diesel Fall Truck Jam in Julian, North Carolina, Lavon Miller set the world on fire.

The Pro Street category is agreeably one of the most respected classes in diesel drag racing. While all of the trucks in the class have a weight minimum of 4,500 pounds, they’re still in similar to the factory form. Miller’s fastest career pass in the eighth-mile was a 5.002. In the quarter-mile, they pushed the limits of their chassis certification by running a 7.99 quarter-mile pass at the 2017 Ultimate Callout Challenge.

While both times are absolutely ridiculous considering the weight that they’re moving around, Miller and Team Firepunk wanted more. Every serious driver gets to a certain speed and wants more eventually and that four-second range is one that not many diesel involved people can talk about, especially in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

With their record-setting quarter-mile pass being only a 5.21 at the eighth-mile, you can only imagine what its capable of now with it clicking off into the four-second zone.

“In our 4×4 Pro Street truck, we have been chasing a four-second pass all year long. The conditions were just right over the weekend at the Rudy’s Fall Truck Jam and we got it done,” Miller said. “In our first qualifying pass off the trailer, we ran a 4.97 at 151 MPH setting the Pro Street record.” Although the four-second pass was awesome, the boys from Firepunk had to pull some juice out of the truck to qualify as 5.00 is below the chassis certification.

After struggling at the previous event trying out a new trans brake valve body option, Miller wanted to finish strong with no hiccups. “This final event was to go out have fun and finish strong,” Miller said. “We went away with the trans brake valve body and went back to our tried and true Firepunk 48RE Comp 3 with a Diesel Performance Converters quad disc torque converter with a 2400 RPM stall and foot brake it.”

As you may know, it helps to have a driveline that can handle this amount of abuse, and luckily that winning combo between Firpunk and DPC just keep plugging away at records. Question is, when and how will this trans brake do in the upcoming years? If history repeats itself, they will get it lined out and bury more records.

Not only is this truck capable of four-second passes on the drag strip, but it's the three-time Ultimate Callout Challenge champion that dyno's over 2,000-horsepower and can drag a sled over 300-feet. This combination they have constructed works and it works well.

Getting this truck into that four-second range is credited by a D & J Precision Machine 6.7-liter Enforcer engine that is qualified to run in the 2,000 horsepower range. “A big thank you goes to Drew at D & J Precision for these enforcer engines that have been reliable all summer long making some serious horsepower,” Miller said. “Exergy Performance has covered us with a reliable fuel system and Bosch support that is flawless and powerful giving us the control we need to succeed. ”

Miller also mentioned a big thanks to Hot Shot’s Secret for the fluids that have outdone all expectations. “Kyle, at Hot Shot’s Secret, has been a huge help and provided us with our engine oils and transmission fluids that have proved themselves in the fastest trucks in the sport!”

We were in shock to hear about this news after following them all year and we congratulate the entire Firepunk team for their constant wrenching and designing to get that truck where it is. We are looking forward to 2019 and can’t wait to see what is up their sleeves next. Stay tuned to Diesel Army for more news from the diesel industry.
