Cool Power: Banks Power 4-Inch Monster Exhaust Cools Regenerations

Banks Power is still one of the leading companies in the diesel performance industry as they broaden their reach in multiple categories including racing, towing, and even military applications. With the hype of the 17+ GM trucks climbing, it was inevitable that parts would begin to hit the shelves for you to upgrade your new truck.

Banks is introducing their new four-inch Monster Exhaust System featuring the CoolCuff design for the 2017-2018 GM 6.6-liter Duramax L5P trucks. This DPF-back exhaust system features constant-diameter four-inch, mandrel bent, 409 stainless steel tubing, and the exclusive CoolCuff exhaust gas reduction system.

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) on the L5P Duramax engines is cleaned through a process called regeneration. During regeneration, the exhaust gas temperatures reach over 1,000-degrees at the outlet of the filter. By using the CoolCuff design, unlike other exhaust systems, the temperatures are reduced as much or more than stock while nixing the power-robbing backpressure.

Also, real-world testing of the Monster Exhaust performed by Banks has proven there is an average reduction of 350-degrees when compared to stock at eight inches from the tip during highway cruising. “The CoolCuff is the key,” Banks says.

Unlike Banks, other systems offer ineffective perforations around the circumference of the tip. The CoolCuff is located inboard, drawing cool air from the outside the exhaust, reducing the temperatures of the hot exhaust gases before leaving the tailpipe. When testing, in regen mode, on the dyno, other exhausts read between 770-802-degrees. With the Monster Exhaust system, it measured a cool 485-degrees. With an outstanding 317-degrees less than competitors, that’s 32-degrees below stock.

Unlike competitors’ systems that offer ineffective perforations around the circumference of the tip, the CoolCuff is located inboard, drawing cool air from outside the exhaust, reducing the temperature of the hot exhaust gasses before exiting the tailpipe. When testing in regen on the dyno, competitors’ temps 8″ from the tip ranged from 770° to 802°, while the Monster Exhaust measured a cool 485°. That’vs 317° less than the competitors and 32° below stock!

In 2016, when the L5P was launched, Banks collected testimonials from truck owners concerned about the exhaust temperatures. Due to the blasts of hot exhaust, their trailers were blackened and even deformed from the heat. With the Banks Monster Exhaust System, the issue has since been resolved. So, you’ve got the upgraded exhaust, but it’s not like Banks to leave you hanging on the tailpipe.

So, what options are available for the exhaust tip? All you L5P owners can choose from two 6-inch by 5-inch ob-rounded angled exhaust tips in either chrome plated polished stainless steel, or high-temp mattle black with a rolled edge. Also, unlike other familiar tips, Banks chrome-plated tips will not discolor after being exposed to heat over time.

The Banks 4″ Monster Exhaust with CoolCuff (Part No. 48947 for chrome or 48947-B for black) fits all regular cab short bed, double cab short bed, double cab long bed, crew cab short bed, and crew cab long bed models and is now available via Banks Power authorized dealers and here at a low $449.99.
