ODSS Round #3: Hollyrock Customs Summer Diesel Showdown

We’re two stops in on the Outlaw Diesel Super Series circuit and it’s already been a wild ride. Rudy’s season opener didn’t disappoint, the new Outlaw Diesel Revenge race by Firepunk Diesel was spot on, and now, we’re headed into our last new event to the circuit. The Hollyrock Customs Summer Diesel Showdown is June 21st through the 22nd.

This new smash-hit event on the east coast will be held at none other than Virginia Motorsports Park in North Dinwiddie, Virginia. Virginia Motorsports Park is the home of one of the best track surfaces on the NHRA circuit. This house holds up to 23,000 spectators and looks to be the largest event and venue we could see in years to come.

We spoke with Hollyrock Customs owner, Mike Graves, to get his thoughts on this new event and what his expectations are as a new Outlaw Diesel Super Series Promoter. “All I can say is thank you for all of the sponsors making the trip out and thank you in advance for all of the spectators that will be in attendance,” said Graves. “I can guarantee this is the best dragstrip in the world right now. It has been said by John Force racing that this is the truest dragstrip in the world.”

Graves tells us that after two years of rest, the old faithful Duramax truck that put them on the map is coming out for this weekend. This truck is known for being a heavy, usable street truck. This truck has been in the Ultimate Callout Challenge and done very well for a truck that can still be taken to work.

Graves continued, “The track owner has put over $2,000,000 into this facility in the last two years and for the diesel world, they will never race at a better facility or on this good of a track surface again. I know that a lot of these teams have been chasing that three-second pass and if it’s going to happen anywhere, it’s going to be right here at Virginia Motorsports Park.”

After talking with Mr. Graves about their upcoming event, it is safe to say the nerves are running high as myself and everyone else is anxious to see that first three-second pass out of a diesel-powered machine. This event is definitely going to be great and you’re not going to want to miss it.

Catch all of your favorite trucks and drivers battle it out on the 1/4-mile of fun.

Like the other Outlaw Diesel Super Series events, it will include the normal classes including E.T, 7.70 Index, 6.70 Index, Outlaw 5.90 Index, Pro Street, Pro Mod, and Pro Dragster. As we continue on with this circuit, the points are already tightening up in all of the classes.

In the JAMO Performance Exhaust E.T class, Ryan Riddle continues his 2018 dominance with a win at the Outlaw Diesel Revenge event in Ohio and looks to keep that momentum going in front of an east coast crowd. Hot on his tail is Kyle Mirieter and Rudy’s season opener winner Kamron Burchette.

ATS Diesel / Diesel Power 7.70 Index class is also being led by Ryan Riddle. Riddle not only won the E.T class in Ohio, but he also won the 7.70 Index class even with cooling issues. Nick Morris has been on his A-game along with the Hot Shot’s Secret backed BMW piloted by Trey Sikes. Both Morris and Sikes are doing well, but can Riddle be stopped?

Team Hot Shot’s Secret comes with a crew to support their fellow drivers.

In the Maryland Performance Diesel 6.70 Index class, newcomer Kyle Hutchinson is heading into the Hollyrock Customs race with a full head of steam after a win in Ohio with Firepunk Diesel’s Landon Miller just ten points back. Who will take the crown at the first Outlaw event at an NHRA track?

Firepunk Diesel’s Outlaw 5.90 Index class has been growing and has been one of the hottest classes on the ticket. Paul Cato’s second-gen Ram is safely 33-points ahead of the rest of the pack in points, and Cato is heading to Virginia looking to make a statement after some issues in Ohio. Just behind Cato is Mindy Jackson and her Cummins-powered Ford and McCoy Black in his Power Stroke machine. Will the points lead grow or will we have a new leader?

Hot Shot’s Secret Pro Street class seems to be quickening with Derek Rose, the 2019 Ultimate Callout Challenge winner, clicking off a very low five-second pass in Ohio. But, Johnny Gilbert’s Stainless Diesel Ram is safely ahead in points with a 37-point lead over Emilio Blanco in his Anarchy Diesel-backed Ram. Will Virginia’s track prep be enough to see a four-second Pro Street pass?

Suncoast Diesel‘s Pro Mod class is obviously the most wicked class of the weekend. As Mr. Graves stated earlier, if there is a three-second pass going to happen, it will happen here. Although they both had their issues in Ohio, both Ben Shadday and Larson Miller look to change their luck come June 21st-22nd.

Rawlings Barnes’ Ford is coming off of a win in Ohio and looks to please their east coast fans at the new event, but Shadday still holds the points lead by only a mere three points. The points championship is on the line and every pass counts. Who do you have taking the crown in October? Will we see a three-second pass next weekend?

The Flo-Pro Performance Exhaust Pro Dragster class is and probably will continue to be led by Schied Diesel‘s Jared Jones. He continues to go out and put on a show for the fans with consistent low-four-second passes in his Cummins-powered dragster.

We cannot fathom how big this event will be and can’t stress enough how much fun is in store. If you’re even remotely close to Virginia Motorsports Park, mark your calendars for the wildest, diesel-packed fun you can imagine.
