Rocky Top Diesel Shootout: Friday Night Quick 8 Preview

The Rocky Top Diesel Shootout race has been one of the best events on the Outlaw Diesel Super Series circuit. Now, after six years, they continue to push the envelope and try to develop and even better show for you fans. On top of the normal Saturday shenanigans, Friday night will offer pro class qualifying and a gas versus diesel Quick 8 Shootout.

You are probably familiar with all of the diesel trucks that will be competing in the shootout, but on the gas side, there are some big-time firepower going to be in attendance. Before we discuss our gas enemies, let’s run through the known diesel-powered machines that hopefully will end the day in victory.

Rudy’s Performance Parts‘s, Rawlings Barnes, will be piloting their late-model Ford Pro Mod truck in both pro qualifying and the quick eight shootout. Barnes’ truck easily and, as of late, consistently is running sub-4.70-seconds passes. This puts him right up there with a high chance of victory when consistency and speed combine.

Firepunk Diesel‘s Larson Miller will have the Save The Racks S-10 there with new goodies on board to hopefully put on a show. The “S-10” is one of the fastest diesel-powered vehicles on the planet. If these new parts do what they should, this is a team you don’t want to take lightly. Miller’s best elapsed time is a 4.25-seconds.

Also joining the crowd is Ben Shadday of Done Right Diesel Performance. Shadday’s little white truck may be small but it packs one hell of a punch. Shadday’s consistently fast sub-4.70 passes put him in contention of possibly winning this whole thing, too. If you’re in the other lane against Shadday, you better be on your A-game.

“The Diesel Nova”, known around the country, will be in attendance as well. Harway Performance‘s Ryan Milliken is hoping to make the trip up from Florida worth it and put that mean green nova in the winner’s circle. Milliken’s best elapsed time is a 4.289-seconds. On the diesel side of things, this race is anybody’s to win.

In the other corner, we have a few named cars and trucks that we recognize but aren’t familiar with, Chase Lunsford and Bobby Dodrill. Chase Lunsford, Co-Owner of KingSpeed Race & Repair, is familiar with diesel drag racing. In fact, just a few short years ago, Lunsford piloted a single cab Ram truck in the Pro Street class. Since then, he’s turned his drag racing passion over to cars.

Florida native Bobby Dodrill is bringing his 4×4 Chevrolet pickup truck that isn’t your ordinary square-body truck. This standard cab, short-bed, 4×4 Silverado is making 3,000-horsepower and has been 4.30 at 170-MPH.

“Chase Lunsford is bringing his small-tire Mustang and it is absolutely blistering fast,” said Michael Dalton, owner of RLC Motorsports, in a recent Facebook Live event. “Then, you have Bobby Dodrill. Bobby’s coming up from Florida to hang out and race with us for the weekend. That truck is gnarly fast and he puts on a show at every race.”

Bottom line, the lineup for this Quick 8 Shootout is pretty nasty and we can’t wait for Friday night to see who has all their ducks in a row. Don’t forget to be there so you can see all the action yourselves. For more information about this upcoming event, be sure and check out the Rocky Top Diesel Shootout website here.
