The Fuel System Saver: Hot Shot’s Secret’s New LX4 Lubricity Extreme

Alright, guys. We’ve tackled the fuel and oil additive game quite a few times and we have discovered that when it comes to Hot Shot’s Secret, these products work. Continuing on their additive journey, Hot Shot’s Secret is after creating the next best fuel additive on the market. In fact, in recent testing, we think they may have sealed the deal.

What is the new product? The new product Hot Shot’s has developed is called LX4: Lubricity Extreme. LX4 has been put through extensive testing where their engineers look at the performance of the product and how well it lubricates the tested fuels. The ASTM D6079 is the lubricity test that LX4 has undergone the results are in.

Not only does the LX4 perform well but it also looks great too. In the latest bottling of Hot Shot’s Secret products things really turned out great.

Beforehand, to make it clear, when you’re looking at the chart below, the bottom row is what is important. “The bottom row is the measurement of the “Wear Scar Diameter”. The smaller the number, the smaller the wear scar. So, inevitably, that’s what we’re after,” said Eric Trimble, Marketing Coordinator for Lubrication Specialties. “We tested three different fuels; Standard pump ULSD fuel, unadditized diesel before treatment, and VP Racing Torq DX fuel.”

The specification for diesel fuel in the US per ASTM D-975 for lubricity is a maximum wear scar of 520 microns (for comparison, the EN-590 European diesel spec is 460 micron). However, per the EMA (Engine Manufacturers Association) recommendations, the scar maximum in the US should be no more than 460 microns. “Any fuel with a wear scar rating greater than 520 is deemed to be unacceptable for our trucks which will lead to excessive wear because of a lack of lubrication,” said Trimble.

With all of these being said, you’re probably aware of the current lawsuit GM is going through. This may be a potential fix for these common CP4 injection systems. In the results, it’s obvious that LX4 offers much better lubricity than others and is safe for both gas and diesel fuels. In this product, there are also no harmful solvents or alcohol and is safe for emissions compliant equipment. You’re looking at an improved lubricity by 56-percent when tested with diesel fuel in ASTM D6079.

For reference, the LX4 treatment size is 1-ounce per every 10-gallons of fuel.

Product Details

LX4 contains the highest level of lubricity performance on the market and can put even the poorest quality of fuel back in the specification and exceed OEM requirements for lubrication. If you’re interested in preventing wear and scarring of key components inside the fuel system, including pumps and injectors, this product is for you. If you’re already using Hot Shot’s additives, rest well knowing that LX4 is 100-percent compatible with their other products.

“We have had great feedback from our initial field testers including great fuel economy gains but we have yet to officially test that. This is 100-percent a lubricity only additive and can be used with our other fuel additives,” said Trimble. “Our biggest selling point with the product is supreme protection. Containing the added lubricity you need to keep your fuel in or exceeding specifications and protects your fuel systems components.”

We also talked with Kyle Fischer, Brand Manager for Hot Shot’s Secret and he is just as excited for this product as we are. “This stuff can take a fuel that you wouldn’t want to use as far as lubricity testing goes and turn it into something much better than before.

We are excited to see that Hot Shot’s Secret has continued their excellence onto a lubrication-only based additive and really hope that this new LX4 is a game changer for those involved in the suit with GM as well as everyone with a vehicle. I mean, not only does this work with diesel-powered trucks but it also works with gasoline and purpose-built race vehicles, too. We can’t wait to see this product explode and hear your thoughts after your own testing.
