Firepunk Diesel’s Record Breaking Weekend In South Georgia

Firepunk Diesel has been punishing racing track surfaces over the last few seasons doing everything possible to improve their best elapsed times and speeds. Multiple changes, multiples attempts, and they’ve finally got the truck figured out for the most part. They set the diesel-powered door car record multiple times but as they reach the lower half of the four-second elapsed time zone, that three-second pass was almost in sight.

Regardless of the track, they’ve had their Hot Shot’s Secret-backed, all-aluminum Cummins-powered S10 dialed in to make 4.2x-4.3x passes all year. With the Outlaw Diesel Super Series season-ending just a month ago, Team Firepunk decided to embark on a journey they’ve never been on. Small, radial tire racing. Today, at the 11th annual DuckX Productions No Mercy event at South Georgia Motorsports Park, history was made.

The rear suspension was adjusted, a smaller set of 315 radials were bolted up, and the fight was on. After only a few days of testing, some transmission adjustments, over 10 unsuccessful launch attempts, they finally got it to stick. Wednesday evening in qualifying pass #1 in Radial Vs The World, the S-10 loved the tires and power wheelied past the 60′ where driver Larson Miller was forced to lift.

Ready to get a good night’s rest, team Firepunk had called it a night until their class was called to the lanes once more. In a rush, the S10 made its way to the lanes where they crushed their original personal best elapsed time and mph ((4.21 at 178 mph) with a 4.11 at 181. They’ve done so on less power than the original record and on a much smaller tire.

I think it was worth staying up a few more hours, don’t you? Everyone, myself included, was excited to see this team get that much closer to that 3-second goal after trying and trying. What are your thoughts on the small tire racing for the diesel trucks? Do you prefer the big tires or the small?

The new personal best time, and with the title as the fastest diesel-powered door car in the world, the S10 and the Firepunk Diesel / Hot Shot’s Secret team could end their year on a high note as this has been a huge weekend for diesel motorsports.
