Reader’s Rig: Dan Verot’s Duramax-Swap C20

For this Reader’s Rig, I’ve found a truck that is a little outside of the box. Many of you, or at least I think many of you, don’t want to spend the money it costs to get a brand-new truck. So many are opting to find an older truck that you can fix up. If you’re Dan Verot, then you go all out. Dan recently posted pics of his Duramax swap C20 project on a Facebook page and it is immaculate.

At first, I thought this was a for sale ad given the quality of the truck and the attention it was getting online, but it was merely him showing everyone the work he has put into this truck, and honestly, good on him for it. He’s done a great job on it. What you see here is a concoction of multiple vehicles layered into one.

Who else wishes they were cruising into town with this?

What you’re seeing is a 1980 Chevrolet C20 body that has been completely redone and restored to perfection. While the body was removed and being restored, Verot found a 1989 one-ton frame to support the body. Once he had a chassis, he needed a powerplant. To build his dream, he completed a Duramax Swap and re-powered this truck with an LMM Duramax and a built six-speed Allison transmission taken out of a 2008 Silverado.

According to his Facebook post, this build was done over the span of two and half years and if you ask me, it is worth the wait. Even looking at the interior, he’s gone all-out with upgraded gauges and interior panels, seats, etc. Checking out the exterior, that luscious red paint and a fresh coating in the bed screams, “look at me.”

Left and right, top to bottom, this truck is insane. Nice job on the build, Mr. Verot.

All I can say is thank you Dan for taking the time to share this online and I hope you guys checking it out like this truck as much as I do. If you could put together an old truck like this, what would you use? It is nice seeing someone going outside of the box and not doing another Cummins swap. I understand they’re popular but these diehard GM fans get it. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
