VIDEO: Jay Lee Stuffed A 600HP 6BT Cummins Into A Drag Ford Ranger!

When scrolling through YouTube looking for outstanding news, I stumbled onto our friends over at 1320Video’s page where we found Jay Lee and his Cummins-powered Ford Ranger. My eyes instantly caught the word Cummins and doubletake. Sure enough, another sweet diesel swap! Midland, Texas native brought this truck out to compete and it was a treat for all.

Lee bought this truck as a running and driving project with a 4BT Cummins inside. “Someone up North built this truck and I took ownership shortly after and built the engine,” Lee explained. Apparently, it wasn’t built enough, because he blew it up. In fact, after he rebuilt it, he blew it up again.

“After building it and blowing it up, building it and blowing it up, enough was enough,” Lee said. “I was tired of dealing with that and gave up on the 4 cylinder. I wanted to use the bigger 6BT Cummins engine and so, here we are.” With a pretty simple looking setup under the hood, Lee’s Cummins is pouring out a dyno-melting 603-horsepower.

That may not seem like much, but this is basically a hot powerplant inside of a tin can, am I right? A bigger turbo, nitrous, head studs, and a few other things are the recipe Lee uses to get this Ranger going in a hurry. With 603-horsepower, the Ranger is making 1,300 lb/ft of torque too! Getting it to stay hooked to the ground is key.

With the help of 14-inch wide Hoosier slicks and a Ford 9-inch rear differential, Lee has gotten the 60′ time down in the 1.20 range. With these times, he’s bested a 6.1X pass in the eighth-mile and a 10.1X in the quarter-mile. Not bad for a Ranger. As you can see in the video, though, Lee’s day ended earlier than expected when the yoke on the driveshaft decided to pack its bag and head south. The breakage ended the weekend.

Pretty cool little truck, anyway. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
