BD Diesel’s Screamer Turbos Now Offered For L5P Duramax Trucks!

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have and always will be one of the most popular trucks in the world. For us diesel nuts, we love the trucks but it’s what powers them that really gets us going. The 6.6-liter Duramax engine is one of the toughest platforms out there and the latest engine model, the L5P, is the latest craze.

That being said, parts are coming out more and more for these engines as their popularity grows. The biggest issue with this is that aftermarket manufacturers are forced to have these parts certified by emissions executives. Having the EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) certification is crucial. In fact, this product has met EPA’s reasonable basis requirements and is legal for sale and use within the jurisdiction of the federal EPA. (Minus California)

What is the big deal? Well, if you’re like us, you want to get the most out of these upgrades. You want to make more horsepower, more torque, and have more fun with or reliably work more with the truck. Luckily for us, some of the best companies in our industry have figured out how to be mindful of emissions, yet offer huge performance gains.

This brings us to our next announcement. BD Diesel has run their “Screamer” line of turbos for many different applications and they’ve spread that support to the L5P Duramax engines. We actually used BD’s Screamer turbo for one of our project trucks, Project TowBoat, and it was incredible, to say the least. The throttle response was hugely noticeable, the mileage was improved, and the sound output wasn’t half bad either. With an upgrade like this, not only are you earning a better running truck, you’re getting more support for potentially more horsepower.

So, let’s talk about L5P Screamers. BD’s new product here is for the 2017 and newer 6.6-liter Duramax-powered trucks. BD Diesel’s Screamer line of turbos is a completely drop-in, stock-appearing unit that adds an additional punch in power. Without major modifications to your intake or exhaust systems, you can turn your truck into a different animal.

What is special about these for the L5P? The L5P’s Screamer features a custom compressor and turbine wheel that have been designed to offer increased airflow without compromising low-end performance. In fact, the Screamer unit outflows the stock unit by 17-pounds per minute. They are manufactured inside the OEM housings but they have been machined out to accept the new, larger 66.3-mm compressor wheel and 67-mm turbine wheel which results in a better airlow. This is where you’re getting that 80-pounds per minute of flow.

Because of this, your L5P engine, with supporting modifications, will have lower EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures) and have the airflow to churn out up to 680-horsepower. This is a ton of power for an everyday truck that you can drive every day. In stock and ready to ship, BD Diesel’s L5P turbos are a new hot item.
