Anyone searching for a unique ride would have to stop and take notice of this trike that Glenn Russell created. “I had a bad dream, woke up and built this,” is what Glenn Russell tells everyone when they ask why he built it. His unique creation is certainly an eye catcher.
The engine is out of a concrete curb machine that his friend gave him and is a Deutz Air Cooled 236ci. It has 65 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque. Behind the engine is a Muncie granny 4 speed. The transmission sends power through the drive shaft and into the rear end. For a rear end, Russell opted to use one out of a 2003 Chevrolet S10. “It was the first year with rear disk brakes,” said Russell.
Up front, Russell opted to use a Harley-Davidson FLH front suspension. To connect the whole thing together, Russell started with raw steel and started welding. The project took about a year to finish and it has been an eye catcher ever since.
Don’t think for a minute this is strictly a show vehicle. Russell has put over 15,000 miles on the bike and isn’t afraid to drive/ride it anywhere. Last year, he participated in a biker ride from Jacksonville, Florida to San Diego, California and back. This year, he plans on doing a similar long trip to help bring awareness to Breast Cancer.
According to Russell, the trike regularly gets 40 to 45 miles to the gallon on the freeway cruising at 75 mph and when towing a 4’x6’ custom trailer, he gets about 37 mpg.
He wanted to give a big shout out to the crew at Diesel Life for all of their help with this three wheeled wonder!
