A 4,157 Horsepower Record Is Set At Diesels In The Mountains Event

The air in Richfield, Utah, was thick with the smell of diesel and anticipation at the Diesels In The Mountains event. While dirt drags and show trucks filled the day, all eyes were on the dyno, where the Power Driven Diesel team rolled in with a stable of fresh builds, ready to put their latest innovations to the test in front of a massive crowd of enthusiasts.

Pre-Event Prep and New Tech

The Power Driven Diesel (PDD) shop buzzed with activity the week before the event, as the team installed the company’s new Aggressor 98 mm turbo on Todd’s tow rig, Big Black. He was thrilled with the results, saying, “Honestly, I’m really excited. This 98 mm turbo did just as much horsepower as the old 106 did,” with the truck ultimately laying down an impressive numbers. At the same time, Will was thrashing to finish the new engine for his race truck, Uncle Rico — a unique 6.7-liter Cummins block topped with a 12-valve head.

While the team assembled the other trucks, Josh was dialing in his proven, high-horsepower ’07 Cummins. His goal was to take a shot at the dyno record at the Diesels In The Mountains event, taking advantage of the high-altitude location. He spent time at the PDD shop making careful adjustments to the Bosch engine control module (ECU)’s smoke map to dial in the truck. After a successful shakedown on the rollers at home, his conclusion was simple and relieved: “Everything’s still in one piece. All of the rods are inside of it.”

The Record-Shattering Run

At the event, Josh was the first to roll onto the dyno for the unlimited class. The crowd watched as the truck spun the rollers, but the flashing number on the screen—4,157 horsepower—stunned them. The crowd erupted. “That 4,157 horsepower is insane,” Todd said. He immediately put the number in perspective, adding, “His raw number is still the highest that has ever been recorded on that dyno. And that’s the UCCC dyno.” This proved the run was not just a result of a favorable correction factor but a truly historic pull.

A New Benchmark for Diesel Performance

Josh’s incredible run was more than just a win for the Power Driven Diesel team; it set a new benchmark for the entire competitive diesel industry. The 4,157 horsepower figure, backed by a record-setting raw number on one of the country’s most well-known dynos, is proof of years of development and a wild showcase of just how far diesel performance has pushed the limits of what was once thought possible.
