LEAD-ART

Finally! Diesel Army is live and we can share it with the rest of the world. To you, our loyal members of the diesel army, we would like to say WELCOME! In case this is your first time joining us, we are the newest all things diesel magazine, website, webzine or online magazine as some like to call it. Now, let’s explain who we are, where to find the hottest news, who’s running this ship, and what you will find in the coming months.

Who We Are

Diesel Army is part of the Power Automedia family. That means collectively, we are one of 10 other automotive performance publications. So, while we are a new magazine, our parents have been around for quite some time. When deciding on the layout of the magazine, we wanted to go “beyond the pages” of a standard print publication. So, we are 100% digital. With all digital content, we don’t have to charge you for a subscription (we are free!), we aren’t limited to page count, we can add as many photos as we need to properly convey each piece, we can tell the stories our way and include awesome video content to boot. So, who are we? We are your number one resource for technical stories, in-depth interviews, how things work, excellent video coverage, a great place for vehicle features (both “pretty trucks” and “functional trucks”) and the best place for up-to-the-minute news and event coverage! Now let’s talk about all that you can expect from us.

TS-0204-1101 Male flange sectionedYou will find a number of the latest technical stories from our team of expert mechanics and writers. This means you will benefit from the highest level of expertise, and years of experience, wrenching, writing and research with every article. Our goal is for you to come away with a solid understanding of the subject and how it can benefit you and your project.

Our “How It Works” series takes you in-depth to the mechanics and science behind many of the concepts, parts and products that are hot in the market today. Why do we do that? Because quite frankly, if you don’t understand how it works, how would you know if you need it or not to achieve your goals. Then, we follow that up with hard-core tech, showing you how to use or install aforementioned product or technology. But wait, there is definitely more! We then couple that with the new products section so you’ll know who and where to get the latest and greatest. It’s all here, folks, everything you need for your diesel passion, right at your fingertips.

If hardcore tech isn’t your thing, don’t worry – we have lots of show in our go also! From the latest show trucks and project vehicle features to the hottest event coverage to amazing videos, we literally have something for everyone. So, come on in and stay awhile and check out all of your options. You never know, you just might see you or your truck in the magazine if we catch you at a local event. We love to include our readers at every turn or straight – after all, this is YOUR magazine!

How are we different from other magazines or websites? The stories in Diesel Army aren’t just re-hashed or abbreviated from something you’ve seen in print that is months old. We provide you with the latest information, new products, breaking events and coverage of the diesel industry and their shows as it happens, and in some cases it is brought to you live and on the spot!

HOMEPAGE

Site Seeing

Now, that you’re sure this is going to be your new home; it’s time for a quick tour. It’s super easy. When you get to the website, you will see the home page with its Category Headers (News, Tech, Features, etc.) and Featured Article Rotator (FAR) images. Below that will be a listing of the all of the features, tech and news stories that have most recently been published.

The most notable of these will no doubt be the FAR (which is constantly changing with the newest content). These are latest, hot features, and technical articles published to the magazine. To access any of these articles simply move your cursor over the image and click on it.

DROP_DOWN

Above the FAR is a row of Category Headers. As you move the cursor over these Headers, a “drop-down menu” will appear. When you place the cursor over any of these subheads and click once, all the story files under the particular subhead will appear. At that point you can move your cursor down the column of stories and as it floats over a photograph or story title and it changes color, you can click to see that particular story.

One of the most talked about sections of Diesel Army is the Videos section. With our team, you never know what you might find here. It could be anything from a “hold my beer, watch this” type of moment to engine carnage to the latest event coverage, shot LIVE.  This is one of the many significant aspects that sets us apart from all other diesel publications. Our ability to bring you live action, with daily updates.

So Who’s Running This Joint?

Now that you know who we are, how we are different and how to navigate around the magazine, we thought it would be good to let you know who’s steering the ship. Since we are bucking the traditional magazine world’s rules, we figured why stop at just amazing, above and beyond content. We opted to do what most others can’t do – we have TWO editors co-captaining Diesel Army. This dynamic diesel duo, offer the perfect yin and yang of the publishing industry. This husband/wife team has successfully worked together for years and fully compliment each other’s skill sets. Nicole Girkey is all about the flash and looking good, while Chad Westfall is super technical and all about the function. Where they come together is their passion for producing top quality, industry leading stories that are ahead of the curve every step of the way.

Nicole Girkey, Co-Editor Diesel Army

As automotive editorial ninja, Nicole has woven her way in and out of various aspects of the automotive print and editorial industry for over 15 years. Her current obsession, diesel trucks, with a focus on sled pulling, keeps her in the dirt much of the time. In her off time, you can try to find her honing her ninja skills, however she is very stealthy. Most often it’s easiest to find her when she’s working on creating the next generation of “car guy” with her son.

Chad Westfall, Co-Editor Diesel Army

EngineWith diesel running through his veins from childhood, Chad has more than two decades of experience in the automotive industry. Even at a fairly young age, there isn’t much Chad hasn’t done when it comes to trucks and diesels.

From editorial work, designing parts, or wrenching – if it’s a diesel, Chad’s hands are all over it. When he’s not writing and shooting trucks and working on hard-hitting tech, you’ll find him in school thrashing to finish his mechanical engineering degree.

Mike Alexander, Group Editor Power Automedia

What do you get when you cross an O.C.D. perfectionist with a car nut suffering from automotive A.D.D.? Well, with over a decade of automotive print and editorial publishing experience, Mike Alexander has been around the block for being the “Young Guy” on staff. As Group Editor for Power Automedia’s Hot Rod & Truck Group, Alexander oversees a staff of talented Editors for multiple magazines. Helping to hand pick and hone the perfect team when launching Power Auto’s new truck titles, Alexander stays quite busy these days.

Celso Nimo and Video Crew At Power Automedia

On the video side of things we have put together an extremely talented group of people. Thanks to having 10 strong automotive publications under the Power Automedia umbrella, we’re able to go further than most and add an exiting element to our “pages” to include action packed and informative video content. Utilizing an in-house team of extremely experienced videographers like Celso Nimo who put together our in-house Dyno Day videos, which help make our pages come to life.

What’s Left – Just YOU!

Another cool thing about being digital is that we want YOUR feedback on everything (seriously, we do!). If you read a news piece and love it, let us know. If the technical article we just wrote isn’t “techy” enough for you or if you want more, let us know. A good partnership between you and us is what we strive for. A place where all diesel enthusiasts can call home, a place where YOUR OPINION matters! So, hit us up on Facebook, and make comments below stories with your valuable input.
