One of the really cool conversions people create are the short bed, regular cab trucks. Take Lance Griffin and his 2007 6.0 Power Stroke. This truck was originally a long bed XL work truck, but that wasn’t what Griffin wanted. “We built it just to try to be unique…not too many reg cab shorty’s with a fully built race motor and compounds running around the city streets,” said Griffin.
The engine today features some really great components to lay down 760 horsepower on fuel only! The engine was built by Cutting Edge Diesel and features R&R billet rods, Colt Cams Stage 1 camshaft, Mahle Motorsports coated pistons, chromoly push rods, River City Diesel upgraded valve springs, and a large set of compounds.
Cutting Edge Diesel set the truck up with a BorgWarner 63mm high pressure turbocharger in the valley and hung a BorgWarner 83mm low pressure charger with a billet compressor wheel off the passenger’s side. To help tune the system, a Precision Turbo 46 mm wastegate was installed. Griffin opted for a Windrunner ported intake to get as much of that air into the cylinders as he could. There is no official word on the injector size other than “large hybrid injectors”. With him just recently laying down 760 horsepower, we are betting he is running something in the 255cc or 285cc range. The injectors themselves are fed with a custom Fuelab fuel system by Cutting Edge Diesel that is regulated by a Driven Diesel regulated return system.
The stock transmission is capable of handling quite a bit of power, but Griffin didn’t want risk being stranded on the side of the road. So, he had the guys at Warren Diesel work their magic and fully build the transmission for him.
“The truck is used only as a toy. Every once in a while it will haul my boat, but other than that, just a powerful grocery getter,” mentioned Griffin. With that type of use, you know he didn’t leave the stock XL interior in it. Griffin tore out the interior and replaced the seats with Harley Davidson seats, added a custom stereo and replaced the carpet.
On the exterior, the truck features Precision Metal Fab (PMF) track bars to ensure the rear axle doesn’t wrap. The rear was, also, dropped 2.5” with a rear shackles. The truck rolls on Eagle Alloy 507 20’s wrapped in Toyo Proxes tires.
