For the last full week of March, we have selected Reese Helms’ F-250 as our Ride Of The Week (ROTW). We think Helms is like many of us. We buy a truck because we like it and really wanted it. Then next thing you know, we have half a dozen performance parts on the truck and there is no end in site.
Helms started with the usual mods. He opted for an AIRAID intake, 4” MBRP turbo back exhaust system and an SCT tuner with Innovative Diesel tuning. Before he knew it, he had added ARP head studs, Xtreme Diesel Performance (XDP) coolant filter, Amsoil bypass oil filter, Performance Machine and Manfuacturing EGR delete kit, CFM plus intake elbow and he did the blue spring upgrade to bump up his fuel pressure a little.
“I have always wanted a diesel and as soon as I could afford one I bought it. I never planned to do all the mods that I have done to it, but I love it,” Helms mentioned.
To keep everyone entertained on those long journeys as he pulls his camper across the country, Helms dropped his truck off at N’Tune Car Stereo and had them upgrade the whole system. They upgrade his head unit to a JVC navigation unit and added a reverse camera. The head unit feeds a JL Audio XD 500/3 amplifier which feeds the JL Audio door speakers (C2 5x7s in the front and TR 5x7s in the rear) and a JL Audio W3 10″ subwoofer mounted in a stealthbox.
Wanting to make sure that he doesn’t get into trouble while driving, Helms installed a set of DiPricol gauges and an Escort hard-mounted radar detector.
To help the truck tow better; Firestone Ride Rite rear airbags were added with an on-board air compressor. When not towing, Helms wanted the truck to sit level, so he added a 2” leveling kit and replaced all the shocks with Bilstein shocks.
To give the truck a more unique appearance, Helms added a billet grille insert, some Bushwhacker pocket flares and upgraded to RECON’s LED taillights and 3rd brake light. Since he does quote a bit of night driving, the front headlight bulbs were swapped out for a set of 5800k HID’s.
The finishing touches for the truck are the 20” KMC Wheels, XD series Diesel Wheels wrapped in 295x60R20 Nitto Terra Grappler tires and a Truxedo tonneau cover! We say finishing touches, but Helms himself say that, “bigger injectors, train horn, and water meth injection” are on the wish list.
