RAM 2025 Heavy Duty Lineup Gets A Comprehensive Refresh

The slow roll of news bites and unsubstantiated rumors about RAM’s refreshed 2025 Heavy Duty family of pickups has finally culminated. Late last year, the hosts of the Truck Show Podcast had on a mystery insider who spilled all the secrets of what was said to lie beneath the truck’s updated hood. We broke down the episode while affirming that the information wasn’t official and couldn’t be corroborated. Until now. The company recently dished on all the details, and we can officially say that the rumor mill was indeed correct.

Right out of the gate, the biggest news appears to be the fact that the diesel powerplant in the 2025 RAM 2500 and RAM 3500 Heavy Duty pickups is in fact still the tried-and-true 6.7-liter Cummins I-6. Gone, however, is the two engine and transmission strategy, with the former standard-output being placed out to pasture. For 2025, all trucks (from the base RAM 2500 Tradesman to the RAM 3500 Limited) will be offered with a single Cummins engine that produces 430 hp with 1,075 lb-ft of torque. That is an increase of 30 hp over the previous high-output Cummins and a new best-in-class standard diesel torque figure (GM’s Duramax offers 975 lb-ft and Ford’s standard-output Power Stroke has 1,050). The gasoline 6.4-liter Hemi V8 remains the standard engine; however, RAM claims more than 70-percent of buyers opt for the Cummins.

A new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, ZF’s 8AT Powerline, replaces both former six-speed units. The additional cogs allow RAM to drop axle gearing to 3.42:1. With this, RAM claims the new trucks will offer noticeably improved fuel economy along with quicker 0 to 60 mph acceleration.

RAM had previously unveiled the truck’s updated exterior design, which includes massive changes to the truck’s grille and headlamps. Each trim now receives a unique grille, with the base Tradesman and off-road-ready Rebel getting a matte black treatment while Longhorn and Laramie come fit with bright chrome trim. Sleek split-tier LED headlamps come standard, while taillamps are offered in either standard or premium configuration.

Inside, RAM’s Heavy Duty now gets many of the updates the revised light-duty 1500 had previously. The interior tech suite features a 12.3-inch driver information display, new larger 14.5-inch vertically oriented infotainment screen, along with an available 10.3-inch front passenger display. Standard safety tech now includes adaptive cruise control and forward-collision alert. Front and rear parking sensors are found on Big Horn and higher trims. Drowsy-driver detection, traffic sign recognition, and lane-keeping assist are all optional. A 360-degree camera system is available, as are automatic blind-spot cameras that activate when the turn signals are engaged.

The updated 2025 RAM Heavy Duty trim lineup remains the same as it was in 2024 and includes Tradesman, Lone Star, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. Regular cab, crew cab, and Mega Cab are available, along with both 6.5- and 8.0-foot beds. Pricing for the 2025 RAM 2500 Heavy Duty starts at $47,560 and reaches $92,495. The 2025 RAM 3500 Heavy Duty starts at $48,565 and climbs as high as $92,855 for a Mega Cab Limited, before options.
