Over the years, we have done a number of stories on gauges, pillar kits and gauge kits. One common misconception that we run into time and time again is that many people in the industry think that a gauge is just a gauge. What they don’t realize is that it is so much more and can do so much more. It really is one of the most important parts of your interior and monitoring what is happening underneath your hood and throughout the vehicle. Well, with those thoughts in mind, we reached out to our friends at Auto Meter and asked them what was newest, most highly developed diesel product they had available. They knocked our socks off with their new diesel gauge kits featuring their Spek-Pro instruments.
So, check this out. These gauges not only come in multiple colors but are completely programmable by the user. The user can change the normal color but the entire gauge will change colors at a warning point of the users choosing. This is a clear sign when you are out racing or stressing your ride that you have hit the danger zone. Did we mention that you can choose and program all of this? These new gauges have an innovative case design allowing for a 60mm dial in a standard 52mm hole. This allows for a very easy “at a glance”viewing under circumstances.
I know, your question is…if these are brand new how do we know they work as touted? Well, these gauges were initially designed for use in NASCAR and other professional racing series. The gauges included in the kit are off the shelf race parts with no differences between them and what the teams get. “We have to pull some of the features out of the off the shelf gauges before we send them to comply with the rules,” said Joseph Mills Director of Marketing for Auto Meter Products. “Specifically, each gauge has a control output on it. When the gauge hits its warning point, it will complete a circuit and allow the activation of external devices such as pumps, fans, etc. We normally use the boost gauges to control water/meth injection, though you can control really anything that takes electricity (including a giant audible alarm),” continued Mills.
Auto Meter uses their highest end data acquisition grade sending units for accuracy and response levels rarely seen outside of the upper echelons of racing. Their digital stepper motor drive assure super quick, precise and smooth pointer movement. For anyone getting seriously into diesel performance, this is an easy way to ensure the most power gets made, reliably. Auto Meter refers to it as, “Cheap insurance for what can quickly become a very expensive hobby”. The kits are available for the Ram 98′-14′, Super Duty 99′-10′ and GM 99′-07′.
