The imagination some people in the automotive world possess amazes me. They can take the mundane and make it amazing. Then there are people like Zac Blondin. Blondin wanted something truly unique, and when he dropped his truck off at Unique Performance for a fresh engine, he didn’t want an ordinary engine. He wanted a 24-valve Cummins. But not just another Cummins, a true, 24-carat wonder — literally.
I wanted to get the details of Blondin’s engine so I reached out to Levi Krech, owner of Unique Performance. More than just a showpiece, the Freedom Racing Engines one-of-a-kind mill in Zac’s truck was outfitted with a Freedom Stage 2 Cummins engine.
What’s Inside This 24 Valve Cummins Gold Mine
Inside are a set of S&S Diesel Motorsport 200-percent over stock injectors fed by a Fleece Performance dual CP3 kit. In this kit are 10MM CP3 and CP3K high-pressure pumps. With the insurance of a healthy set of CP Carrillo connecting rods and a fire-ringed head and block surface, this truck is capable of holding quite a bit of power.
I'm interested in seeing how long this stuff actually holds up to the elements but even if it doesn't last long, damn it looks good.
Other features used to create this outrageous 24-valve Cummins include a Fleece Performance return, coolant bypass, pushrods, valve springs, and ARP 625 head studs. With a good-sized set of injectors, there must be a rowdy turbo hanging off the manifold, right? The all-gold engine features a Forced Inductions S472/87/.90 that hangs off an angled Steed Speed T4 manifold. Backing up all of this power is a Unique-built Party 10/10 48RE transmission with a full-manual valve body.
This is certainly a healthy setup but the main point here is all of the accessories that have been coated with gold. As you know parts for a 24-valve Cummins aren’t cheap but to gold plate them before you put them on, that’s just lit.
