All-New Power Stroke V8 For Ford F650 And F750 Gets Detailed

All-new 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 diesel engine: 90 percent of F-650 and F-750 6.7-liter Power Stroke engines expected to go farther than 500,000 miles without requiring a major service that involves removal of cylinder heads or dropping the oil pan to reach internal components.

Ford has announced the specs regarding their new 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 engine line. Slated for use in the F650 and F750 medium-duty trucks, the new engine has been designed for some serious durability.

A B10 design life is a measurement is used to predict when ten percent of a specific product that’s in use out in the wild will have failed – or in this case, require a major service.

For the this new engine, Ford has specified the 6.7-liter Power Stroke’s B10 life at half a million miles, which means they expect that 90 percent of F-650 and F-750 6.7-liter Power Stroke engines produced are expected to go farther than 500,000 miles without requiring a major service. They specify a major service as one that would require removing the cylinder heads or the oil pan in order to reach internal components.

Ninety percent of F-650 and F-750 6.7-liter Power Stroke engines produced are expected to go farther than 500,000 miles without requiring a major service that involves removal of cylinder heads or dropping the oil pan to reach internal components.

That’s a distance greater than a round trip around the moon, and Ford’s confidence in the new engine comes from countless hours of engine dyno testing.

“F-650 and F-750 customers help keep America moving,” said John Ruppert, general manager, Ford Commercial Vehicle Sales and Marketing. “We’re here to make sure they can with our all-new medium-duty trucks – whether that’s trucking freight from Los Angeles to New York, or helping keep the lights on in your neighborhood.”

Hooked to the new motor will be Ford’s TorqueShift six-speed automatic gearbox, which is backed by a five year, 250,000 mile warranty.

Beyond its enhanced durability, the new motor is also said to make a lot less racket. Ford claims the new engine will be 25 percent quieter at 60 mph, and up to 45 percent quieter at idle from inside the cabin. When standing at the grille of the truck, Ford claims the new mill is 35 percent quieter than the outgoing model.

The motor will be available in three power levels, starting at 270 horsepower and 675 pound-feet of torque, which Ford touts as the best in-class standard offering available. The middle child will output 300 ponies and 700 lb-ft, while the top-spec version of the motor will offer 330 horsepower and 725 pound-feet of torque. Ford points out that the half-million mile B10 rating is based on the highest output version of this new engine.

The Blue Oval has the distinction of being the only medium-duty truck manufacturer that designs and builds its own diesel engine and transmission combination. This approach enables Ford engineers to optimize vehicle performance across the entire lineup and to further refine the powertrain to the specific needs of their potential customers.

Built at Ohio Assembly Plant near Cleveland with available straight frame and tractor configurations, the 2017 Ford F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks are already in showrooms now, sporting this new Moon trip-certified power train. Here’s hoping the seat is comfortable.
