The 2025 Chevy Tahoe Z71 gets the 3.0-liter I-6 Duramax diesel option for the first time, which should make you wonder: what about the 2025 GMC Yukon AT4? Yes, the off-road trim also gets the updated 305 horsepower, 495 lb-ft of torque LZ0 “baby” Duramax mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, bringing optional diesel power to the entire Yukon lineup for the first time. Furthermore, the Yukon lineup now includes a brand-new AT4 Ultimate trim—which can be stuffed with the diesel powerplant, too. Whereas GM’s competitors have dropped their light-duty diesel options, it’s intriguing to see GM not only continue, but expand the application of its optional diesel for half-ton trucks and SUVs.
The 2025 Yukon receives a refreshed exterior and interior design, including unique grille patterns, animated headlamps and taillamps, and a massive 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment Center. In addition to its beefed-up suite of 15+ standard safety and driver-assistance features, the Yukon gets available Night Vision with thermal object detection, alerting the driver when people or animals are detected in low-light conditions. Cadillac has had this feature for a few years now, but this is a first for GMC. The Yukon can tow up to 8,400 pounds and has ProGrade Trailering, a host of available advanced trailering technologies including Blind Zone Steering Assist, Transparent Trailer View, Trailer Reverse Trajectory, Trailer Tire Health, and Jackknife Alert.
The Yukon AT4 Ultimate joins the Yukon Denali Ultimate as, well, the ultimate, checking all the boxes—including the features mentioned above. We’re talking 16-way power heated and ventilated massaging front seats, 18-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system, panoramic dual-pane power sunroof, standard Super Cruise, and more.
The seven-seater off-roady AT4 Ultimate has a front skid plate, 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, and four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that provides an additional two inches of lift for more ground clearance. On top of this standard-fare AT4 attire, the AT4 Ultimate adds a uniqe Obsidian Rush with Red Accents interior, draping all three rows in full-grain leather and splashing in Ash Burl wood accents, open pore wood décor, AT4 Ultimate headrest logos, and leather rim steering wheel accents. There’s an 8.0-inch diagonal rear climate control touchscreen, too.
Like the AT4, exterior colors for the AT4 Ultimate include Onyx Black, Midnight Pine, Sterling Metallic, Summit White, Titanium Rush Metallic, and Volcanic Red Tintcoat. However, the 20-inch wheels are painted Talos Bronze Metallic instead of the AT4’s Carbon Flash Metallic. The AT4 Ultimate also gets an exclusive grille.
Expect to see the 2025 GMC Yukon, produced at the Arlington Assembly Plant in Texas, by the end of 2024, with late-availability (Spring 2025) for the diesel variants. Since you’re a diesel person, this smooth-running, fuel-efficient diesel may be worth the wait. A little diesel grumble coming from the family hauler makes life a little more fun.
