With the 6.4 Power Stroke engines taking so well to tuning upgrades, it has become one of the go to engines for the Ford fans. This is no small feat, there have been hundreds of hours of research and development time spent testing new products.
Trying to figure out what does and doesn’t work on a new engine isn’t easy. Lucky for us, the 6.4 Power Stroke has been out for a while and many people have found some proven receipts. Today, if you are looking for 500, 700, heck even 1,000 horsepower, there are proven recipes to get there.
One of the more common upgrades that people are doing to reach some of these horsepower levels is upgrading their chargers. Whether both turbochargers are being upgraded or just the low pressure charger, with tuning, a ton of additional air is pumped into the engine.
The downside to running more boost with these system is that the air isn’t being compressed as efficiently as they could be. The in-efficiency actually leads to the air heating up quite a bit more than normal. To combat that, many guys are turning to aftermarket intercoolers to help remove that extra heat.
Recently, Turbonetics released their 6.4 Power Stroke intercooler to do just that. Their intercoolers use a bar and plate design with their patented WAVE technology which helps remove up to an additional 30 degrees over a standard tube and fin design.
These intercoolers are all hand welded and inspected to ensure maximum quality and durability. They are, also, designed to have less than a 1 psi pressure drop across the cooler, which is pretty amazing if you consider that air condenses as it cools. So, to keep the pressure constant is pretty good.
These are direct bolt on and are available throughout their well-established dealer network. For more info, check out Turbonetics website here.
