Diesel Drag Racing Overload With 2022’s Fastest Machines

As we quickly approach the 2023 drag racing season, we thought it would be good to look back at last year to relive the events that made history. Thanks to the YouTube channel, Drag Racing And Car Stuff, we are able to see some of the fastest diesel-powered machines on the planet. This video was filmed at last year’s Ultimate Callout Challenge in Indianapolis, Indiana at the legendary Lucas Oil Raceway. You can check out our coverage of the event right here. The Outlaw Diesel Super Series works alongside the “UCC” to create one of the most action-packed diesel events of the year.

The first clip is of Brett Deutsch alongside Firepunk Diesel‘s Larson Miller. Outgunned, Deutsch still puts up a great fight. Deutsch’s ’69 C10 is much heavier and less aerodynamic, however, it still moves much faster than it should. In fact, this is currently the quickest Duramax-powered truck on the planet. Meanwhile, in the opposite lane, Laron Miller pilots what would be the final hoorah for “the S10” as it’s called. Stopping the clocks at a 4.29 at 183 mph, the S10 was certainly one you wanted to see make a blast down the drag strip.

This was the final rip for the S10 as Firepunk Diesel has another build in progress. They have an all-new 1970 Duster that will hopefully top their best eighth-mile elapsed time of 3.99 seconds.

The next clip is of Rudy’s Performance four-wheel-drive Ford next to Cody Cloyd’s Pro Mod Ram truck. Each of these trucks is capable of seriously fast passes. Cloyd’s Ram makes a stout 5.10 at 148 mph just behind Rudys’ 4.74 at 152. On one side, you see a pickup with fat tires in the back being forced to do things it was never designed to do. On the side of the track, is an F-series pickup with FOUR fat slicks on all corners. This was a great side-by-side pass.

Next, you have Done Right Diesel Part‘s Ben Shadday. Shadday took his time perfecting this ’63 split-window Corvette into what it is today. Taking it slow and learning the new chassis, Shadday and his Done Right team have “done it right” by getting this car to go really, really fast. This Cummins-powered machine thunders through and stopped the clocks at 4.27 at 179 mph. We’ve heard the car is actually for sale, so if you’re wanting to go fast, here is your chance.

Like Shadday, Stainless Diesel‘s Johnny Gilbert wanted to get away from the heavy, second-generation Ram pickup he has raced for years. It was time to apply all of the accumulated racing and performance knowledge and join the car group like some of the others. Virtually identical to Shadday, Gilbert also has a ’63 split-window Chevrolet Corvette. The pass you see in the video is only a 4.48 at 152 mph, but they continued to chip away at that and ended up winning this event.

A few minutes later, you get to see the work of DNR Customs‘ Derek Rose and Dirty Hooker Diesel‘s Tyler Burkhard. Staying with the idea of pushing the limits of a pickup truck chassis, Rose’s “Blue Ballz” rips a 4.73 at 158 mph. For a heavy truck, that is screaming. Meanwhile, Burkhard follows it up with a 4.96 at 151 mph with their Duramax-powered machine. The sled-pulling experts have fully committed to drag racing and they are loving it.

Lastly, Mattie Graves shows off her Hollyrock Customs rail. This was a new machine and her team has slowly chipped away at the track and learned this car’s needs. The best pass in the video for her and her Duramax-powered dragster is under the lights and stopped the clocks at 4.63 at 158 mph.

This is just a glimpse into what diesel drag racing has to offer. If you’re ever free on a weekend that the Outlaw Diesel Super Series is invading a track out there, make the trip, You won’t be sorry. For more diesel drag racing news, stay tuned right here to DieselArmy.com.
