Since its inception in 1992 by AM General, the Hummer (civilian counter part to the military HMMWV) has been a force to be reckoned with. The Hummer later dubbed “Hummer H1” is an off-roaders dream and has been a target of radical customizations, including an all terrain MCP (Mobile Communications Platform).

Boasting large displacement engines, 37” run-flat tires and impressive off-road capabilities due to a number of chassis designs, the Hummer H1 can ford 30” of water and climb a 22” step all while maintaining the on-road comfort of a true full-size SUV. Combine this with a self-contained mobile communication platform and you have an off-road/techy’s dream machine, available to the public via eBay.

According to its owner, the 2004 H1 MCP was built by Danko Emergency Equipment on a grant from the U.S. Navy and has a current replacement value of $500,000. The vehicle maintains the original chassis comprised of a 6.5 liter Detroit diesel, GM 4L80-E 4-speed transmission, as well as a cab suited for the largest of friends. Past that however, things take a turn.

Considering the black exterior, it would seem at home parked amongst a S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics) team, and considering the technology on-board, they would be happy to have it. There is an Onan on-board diesel generator used to power both the wealth of electronics and the rooftop air conditioner. The on-board satellite allows communication via telephone, video conferencing, computer networking, and can create an independent local area network should others fail.

The Hummer is currently listed at $380,000 and while 22 people are currently watching it, hoping to become their town’s new communication center, it remains unsold with 1 pending private offer.

The listing suggests that this H1 is also a great platform for a number of different builds, and with less than 19,000 miles they may be right. 2006 marks the last production year of the Hummer, and they are getting harder to come by. So if having digital access in the most remote of locations or starting a hummer chassis project build has been a standing dream of yours… Now is your chance.
