eBay Find: Hummer H1 Predator Duramax Conversion

History has a way of repeating itself, for better or worse, and low gas prices have sent Americans scurrying for bigger, thirstier vehicles. Even the once-hated Hummer seems to be experiencing something of a revival, with the original Hummer H1 commanding top dollar on websites like eBay. Given that it’s been almost a decade since the H1 went out of production though, finding a stock one isn’t exactly easy.

Which is just as well when there’s other options out there, like this 1997 Hummer H1 that’s been converted to a Duramax diesel by Predator Motorsports, making almost 150 percent more power and over 120 more torque compared to the stock powerplant. Combine that with all the aesthetic upgrades, and the $99,000 asking price comes into better focus.

Fitted with a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel, rather than the stock 195 horsepower 6.2-liter Detroit Diesel, this Predatorized H1 makes 465 horsepower and a gargantuan 1,000 lb-ft of torque. This truck isn’t just built like a brick house, it’ll tear the place off its foundation. The engine and transmission only have about 5,000 miles on them, while the modified body has traveled a mere 56,000 miles in its 20-year lifetime. It’s barely broken in, as far as Hummers go, and the opulent interior even less so. This ain’t daddy’s Gulf War Hummer.

Still, it’s a polarizing vehicle, and not exactly a pretty one anymore either. If you’re a fan of the original Hummer’s SUV-like styling, the two-seat, pickup conversion may be a downer. But if you fancy yourself a more-practical, less famous Arnold Schwarzenegger type, then this blacked-out, two-passenger Hummer H1 might be the chariot for you.
