Event Alert: Rocky Top Diesel Shootout #5

For the fifth time, the Rocky Top Diesel Shootout returns back to the mountains of Crossville, Tennessee on July 27th and 28th. This is the biggest diesel-filled event in the state. With more than 150 diesel-powered vehicles in multiple classes, over 30 vendors, live music, and the famous Show-N-Shine, this isn’t going to be the event to miss!

Thanks to our friends over at the Outlaw Diesel Super Series, we will have a day full of the fastest diesel trucks in the country competing for big money on this newly freshened 1/8th-mile track, but that’s not all. Returning for the fifth installment of the Rocky Top race is Sled Pulling! We know this is a big favorite and it’s back!

On top of the drag racing and sled pulling action, don’t forget to stick around for the after party where there will be live performances by Ted Monday with the Dixie Highway Band, the AJ Carter Band, and a motorcycle stunt show by Jesse Toler, Tim Wlasiukl, and Dale Kiesgen. Expect to see a 1/8th-mile wheel at over 125 mph.

2018 Points Recap

ET Bracket brings the neatest vehicles to the drag strip. You never know what you’re going to witness.

In what seems to be a trend, Eugene Ogle is once again the man to beat. His deadly consistency has punched his way to leading Landon Miller and Kenneth Phillips by 32 points. Kenneth and Miller are at a dead tie for second place in points, so with Rocky Top being a single day competition, these guys will have to bring their A-game to take down Ogle.

In the quicker, but equally as competitive, 7.70 Index class, it’s Ryan Riddle with the lead in this years circuit. The 7.70 is one of the most packed classes at these events, so to be leading the points is saying something about the drivers truck awareness and driving skill. Just behind Riddle is Nick Morris and Kyle Bassitt.

Faster yet, in the 6.70 Index class, unlike years past, the points race is tight. The top four in the class are within 20 points of each other. With the season midway, it’s do or die at every race if they want to take home the points championship. Mike Coleman leads the points over Landon Miller, Bradley Kerr, and myself in Project DeadSpool.

In the highly anticipated Outlaw 5.90 Index class, it has been full of excitement. Seth Higgins leads the field of 5.90 trucks with 71 points. Just behind, tieing for second in points is McCoy Black and Danick St. Pierre with 51 points. With a few trucks just now coming out of retirement, this second half of the season could get western for the points leaders.

In Pro Street, it’s Dustin Jackson and Enrique Gonzalez tied for the top of the podium with Lavon Miller only behind by 9 points. With an engine failure at the last event, that set the Miller boys back by a few points. They will head into Rocky Top with a full head of steam in hopes to take down the dominant two-wheel drive trucks.

In Pro Mod, it’s Ben Shadday leading a stout field. The majority of the vehicles in this class run sub-five second 1/8th-mile passes. If you’re leading these points, you’re doing something. Shadday leads in front of Rawlings Barnes, Taylor Overcash, Michael Dalton, Ryan Milliken, and Larson Miller. With a 23 point lead, Shadday better keep it up because everyone will be on his heels come Rocky Top weekend.

The Pro Dragster class is beginning to finally grow. With that being said, it’s Wade Moody and Aaron Reynolds tied in the points over Micahel Cordova and Jared Jones.

Don’t forget to mark you calendars and come out to Crossville, Tennesse for the biggest show in Tennessee. For more information about the racing, check out the Outlaw Diesel Super Series website. Are you going to make it to the show? Let us know in the comments below.
