Well, in what seems to be the quickest moving year yet, we have reached the halfway point of the Outlaw Diesel Super Series drag racing circuit. Coming up July 26th through the 27th, the Outlaw Series invades Crossville Dragway for the sixth annual Rocky Top Diesel Shootout. A recently renovated Crossville Dragway offers one of the best facilities in the circuit for you guys to race on and enjoy and this year’s event guarantees an awesome show.
You know the drill. E.T Sportsman, 7.70 Index, 6.70 Index, Outlaw 5.90 Index, Pro Street, Pro Mod, and Pro Dragster are the classes coming to the mountains of Tennessee. Some of these points races looked dead to rights in the beginning but its shaping up to be a close one in the majority of the classes.
ET Sportsman class points leader, Ryan Riddle, holds the lead over Ken Phillips, but after some extracurricular activities outside of the circuit, Riddles truck suffered some driveline failures. With Phillips just behind him in points, Riddle better have his truck back together in time.
In 7.70 Index, once again, Ryan Riddle is leading the points. As I stated earlier, the truck is down and he’s hoping to get it repaired just in time to defend his points lead. Both Nick Morris and Trey Sikes are just behind him in points bringing up second and third in the standings.
The 6.70 Index class is still being led by Landon Miller. Miller looks to have a safe lead in the big white quad cab Ram, but anything can happen. Zach Danner and Kyle Hutchinson are trailing behind in second and third place in the standings.
Outlaw 5.90 Index, a class that I was anticipating being one of the best classes to watch, has been exactly that. Paul Cato is still holding the lead of the points, but class newcomer Brett Marcum is coming off of his second win in a row. Marcum had no intention of even making the trip to Virginia but it paid off in the end. Only 18-points separate Marcum and Cato for the lead. Trailing behind these two is Rick Fox and Mindy Jackson.
Pro Street points are held down pretty tight by Johnny Gilbert with an 84-point lead. Being in front of the hometown crowd, RLC Motorsport’s Michael Dalton would love to put his bright orange Ram into the winner’s circle.
At the beginning of the year, Rawlings Barnes was certain their Power Stroke-powered Ford would find victory and according to the points, they are doing just that. It’s too close to call at this point and every team needs to have a good weekend if they want to seal the deal off. Barnes holds a 6-point lead over Ben Shadday and just behind him is Larson Miller just 21-points back.
In Pro Dragster, Jared Jones is just doing Jared Jones things. When the lights drop, Jared drives through the most violent tire shake in the history of diesel drag racing, has a big smile on his face, and clicks off a low four-second pass. Keep doing you, Jared.
