According to a recent company announcement, Ford Motor Company Fund is providing more than 25 local World War II veterans with a special tribute in remembrance of these brave soldiers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect their fellow Americans.
Ford Fund is covering the cost of the trip to Washington, D.C. for more than 25 World War II veterans from Missouri and Kansas to experience the national memorials dedicated in their honor.
“It is an honor and privilege to travel to Washington, D.C., alongside these brave Americans who served our country nearly 70 years ago,” said Tony Reinhart, regional director of Government and Community Relations, Ford Motor Company. “Ford Fund’s generous contribution is providing a fitting remembrance of the lasting impact of and appreciation for their historic sacrifice.”
The World War II Honor Flight veterans, who are in their late eighties and nineties, are being greeted in Washington, D.C. by members of Congress and Ford employees at the memorial. They also are visiting the Air Force Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. The trip was organized by the Honor Flight Network of Kansas City.
Ford Motor Company also is marking 9-11 by sending more than 10,000 employees who are members of the Ford Volunteer Corps into their communities on six continents. More than $90,000 in Ford Fund grants has been provided to nonprofit groups in the U.S. for the tools and supplies necessary to complete these projects during the eighth annual Ford Global Week of Caring.
Ford Fund sponsored Honor Flights for veterans in Kentucky and in Ohio earlier this year. Ford is providing more than $50,000 toward Honor Flights this year, similar to the level of support it contributed in 2012. Since 1974 Ford Motor Company and Ford Motor Company Fund have provided more than $8 million to veterans organizations, including support for the National World War II Memorial.
Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services works with community partners around the world to advance driving safety, education and community life. The Ford Motor Company Fund has operated for more than 60 years with ongoing funding from Ford Motor Company. Ford Driving Skills for Life teaches new drivers through a variety of hands-on and interactive methods.
Innovation in education is encouraged through programs that enhance high school learning and provide college scholarships and university grants. Through the Ford Volunteer Corps, more than 25,000 Ford employees and retirees each year work on projects that better their communities in 30 countries.
