Goerend Transmission: Ford Powertrain Tough As Nails

Goerend Transmission out of St. Lucas, Iowa, has been operating for over 70 years. Goerend not only helps those out in need of transmission work for your everyday vehicles all the way up to 2,000-horsepower diesel trucks that sled pull, drag race, and dyno. But, as the industry grows, new manufacturer designs come out forcing companies like Goerend to innovate new and exciting parts to keep you going. For instance, we caught up with Marisa Goerend, at Goerend Transmission to get the scoop on all of their new parts heading into 2019.

A lot of times when people combine the words diesel trucks and performance, one thing comes to mind. Transmission issues. With the weight of these trucks and additional power just a push of a button away, these transmissions’ take abuse. Now, I think we can all agree that the Dodge trucks are the most popular, but Goerend takes that and applies their years of experience to the other manufacturers to ensure they have the same tough parts behind their fire-breathing engines.

How much power are you putting down? Be sure and contact Goerend Transmission for your converter needs.

Goerend Ford Triple Disc Torque Converter

As you may know, the rebuildable torque converter has become one of the hot tickets as of late. Well, Goerend wanted in on the action and has taken care of all of you Ford fans. All of these torque converters are designed and manufactured in-house and feature multiple industry-leading elements. Firstly, the converters showcase a pretty billet front cover. Although you can’t see it, you’ll rest easy knowing it looks as good as it works.

With every truck, there is a different setup. That’s why Goerend offers custom-made high-torque multiplication billet stators to fit your application. “We have doubled the converter clutch area so you can hold more power on your 6R140 converter,” said Goerend. “On the E40D, 4R100, and 5R110 transmissions, the converter clutch area has been more than tripled and upgraded with larger turbines and impeller’s to increase efficiency and hold more power.”

Other features of these converters include furnace brazed turbines and impeller’s, billet piston with damper, reinforced turbines, 4140 turbine hubs, and come with a limited lifetime warranty or three-year warranty. Again, these converters are available for the E40D, 4R100, 5R110, and the 6R140.

You Get A Pan, And You Get A Pan!
So you’ve heard about their tough-as-nails transmissions, but they don’t stop there. A key component to a functional transmission is sufficient amount of clean transmission fluid. So why is that important here? Well, with heavy-duty transmissions, they require more fluid to keep all of those parts lubricated. Well, the high-capacity transmission pans from Goerend are the perfect addition to your stock or built unit. Goerend offers these pans for 21-years worth of Ford trucks.

Everything from 1989 to 2010, including your E40D, 4R100, and 5R110 transmissions are covered.

These pans are constructed of lightweight, cast-aluminum for efficient heat dissipation, durability, and holds approximately 4.5-quarts more fluid than a stock transmission pan to offer more fluid capacity without overdoing it. Their patented sloped floor design results in 100-percent drainage while having a flat bottom for easy installation. Utilizing a magnetic drain plug, these pans are ready to catch any worn gear material keeping your fluid clean.
Also, another great feature of the drain plug is that it’s a one-inch socket. Other plugs used in aftermarket pans utilize Allen plugs. I think we can all agree that Allen’s are the worst thing ever, especially when it is with something with some torque on it.

The Goerend Difference
When asking Goerend what the difference was in their products, she was excited to tell us about the difference between the competition. “We design, manufacture, and build our converters as well as many of the internal converter components in-house from start to finish. This ensures that our dimensions are correct and will work with your transmission,” said Goerend. “Since our converters are all produced in-house when you call us you are talking directly to the manufacturer which is a rarity in this business.”

“Our 8 in-house CNC machines are used to manufacture our billet converter covers, billet clutch dampers, stators, stator caps, races, and many more of the components in our converter builds. Our knowledge, equipment, and patented converter components allow us to build your converter to match your needs,” said Goerend. “We have been in the automotive field since 1947 – with a focus on diesel trucks and converters for the past 40 years. At Goerend’s we value quality, not quantity.”

So, to sum up, if you’re building a Ford transmission or any transmission for that matter, Goerend is here to help and have the experience to guarantee quality. All torque converters are built in-house, using specialty precision ATI, SuperFlow, and Mazak equipment. These high-quality parts carry warranties from Goerend Transmission Inc., up to their exclusive lifetime warranty on triple-disc converters.

No matter the power level, you’re safe with Goerend. Shown is Jean Pierre Libert’s very powerful Dodge drag truck.

“Unlike many transmission companies, we have invested in several on-site specialty tools that allow us to analyze and test our products,” said Goerend. “That combined with our experience makes for an end result that is beyond what the competition can do.” For more information about Goerend Transmission and what they can do for you and your build, be sure and check out their website.
