Like all engines, diesel motors love a lot of air flow. However, with strict new government regulations regarding air quality, emissions, and gas mileage, major automakers are required to install rather restrictive air intake systems on their factory cars and trucks.

However, aftermarket parts makers like K&N Air Filters are able to produce significantly better-breathing intake systems which can free up a lot of otherwise lost power. K&N’s recent foray into Ford diesel pickups has resulted in big power gains for 2011-12 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups.

Turbo diesel engines need a lot of air to run properly, and Ford’s 6.7 liter “Scorpion” diesel engine is no different. While the factory intake system does a satisfactory job of providing airflow to this big oil burner, K&N found room for improvement.
